Hi Everybody!
Hope you are enjoying your weekend. We had a mild and sunny day here,
with temperatures which feel more like spring than winter.
For Art Journal Journey, collage and for 99 Faces, I
made an A3 mixed media piece. I had a brush wipe page onto which I had stamped, but it was a bit too bright, so I gave it a coat of gesso to tone it down. I was recently given a sheet of Dylusions quotes, and the one I wanted to use read, 'I am pretty sure that with sparkly shoes and a new tiara she could conquer the world'. So I painted a face to go with the quote. Her tiara was made with gold leaf and some pearls, and the sparkly shoes were cut from a magazine
Yesterday I went into the Basilica to see the crib, which changes for
each week in Advent:
The windows are always worth looking at:
At the back of the church is a little exhibition showing the history of the building. The old carved eagle is very impressive, too-
On the right is the golden shrine where the remains of St Swidbert, the patron and founder of the town:
I saw the flowers and the copper beech in the garden of an
old complex of houses:
I love this door with the wreath:
Have a great day you all, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!
What a fun quote to be inspired by, I love her tiara and her eyes especially! Beautiful photos too!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful seasonal photos Valerie! Love your tiara and fancy shoes inspiration. Great idea to use gesso to lighten a background.
ReplyDeleteLove the painting, and the quote, great idea, I think I would like the sparkly shoes, but perhaps a hat instead of a tiara! Wonderful photos too. We are off to P. tomorrow. Hugs, Sarah
ReplyDeleteI bought a pair of shoes like that for a wedding a couple of years ago and they were the most uncomfortable things I've ever worn, my feet were killing me. Lol. I do love a stained glass window though and these are fabulous. Have a lovely Sunday. Xx
ReplyDeleteI would not be able to walk one step in shoes like that!
DeleteShe is gorgeous. love the shoes. Thanks also for sharing your lovely photos too.
ReplyDeleteLove the gorgeous artwork Valerie and the shoes are incredible with the blingy glitter. Love the verse. Your photos are special and I love that door with the wreath too. The church windows are beautiful as well as the crib. Merry Christmas. xo
ReplyDeleteShe looks like the tiara belongs on her head. I love how it is made out of gold and how you made her eyes. Also lovely photos of the basilica all donned out for the holiday. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend. :)
hugs jenny
Those are some really sparkly shoes. They look like they and the tiara would be all she needs to conquer the world. I certainly like her attitude, as well as her face.
ReplyDeleteI was very impressed with the Basilica. Besides the changing manger scene, the stained glass is always fun to see. Wonderful photos of the alter, too.
I've never heard of copper beech before, but I loved the look of those petals. I wish I had a few of them to add to fabric for dyeing. Guess I've got that on my mind anytime I see anything that is not totally dead. Hope you are enjoying your weekend.
Like that simple crib in the Basilica.
ReplyDeleteFab face and I love the shoes.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos and the stained glass windows look stunning.
Have a great day.
Avril xx
Terrific face and page with a great quote. I'm pretty sure with shoes I like that I wouldn't be able to stand up but I did when I was younger and more daring. lol
ReplyDeleteLove the photographs and the beautiful stained glass especially.
Have a great day
Love Chrissie xx
They are Fab shoes, never worn any as high for many many years, but you can still dream. Another beautiful face , she has lovely eyes.

p.s.
forgot to mention the super photos, love the church windows
Brilliant quote and such a wonderful happy face Valerie - until she falls off those heels and twists her ankles - ouch! Love it!
ReplyDeleteLovely interesting photos - the stain glass windows are beautiful - and I love the photo of the tree too, and can see a couple of funny faces on the trunk :)
Gill xx
I saw the faces, too, and as you move around the tree they seem to change!
DeleteWell, I'm going to put glitter on my shoes and polish my tiara today for sure! Great page - love your photos. The stained glass is spectacular. hugs, Donna
ReplyDeleteWhen I read Valerie's quote and FACE page today I thought of you. A perfect quote for Donna.

ReplyDeleteLove your queen. What a lovely 3-D effect.
ReplyDeleteHappy Christmas and have a great 2016.
Thank you for the beautiful photos taken at the Basilica and the door with the wreath, truly a festive post today. I enjoyed your FACE journal page with her tiara! The blue shoes would have been on my shopping list but not today, just memories of prior years. Tomorrow is a special day, ENJOY!
ReplyDeleteLove you,
Carolyn
Who doesn't need sparkly shoes and a shiny tiara to wear. I have cowboy boots do they count. No heels for me, but their are my sparkly shoes nonetheless. Love that fading hydrangea. xox
ReplyDeleteFabulous face! Love the blue shoes and the fun quote. Beautiful photos of the Basilica. Hugs, Mar
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the Christmasy scenes around you, especially that gorgeous church. Your page is very fun and I love those shoes. Not that I can wear heels like that any longer, but I still admire pretty shoes.

Your young girl looks so pretty and innocent, love her red hair.
ReplyDeleteI need stout walking shoes (attractive coloured ones that fit) and possibly a hand-knitted woolly hat (in a real winter) to conquer the world.
Ah, youth.
Ha! ha! I love the quote and your girlie with sparkly shoes and tiara! What a great idea the Basilica has for changing the scene throughout Advent! The windows do look fabulous! Great to be home and to be able to have a look back through your blog! Hugs, Chrisx Hugs, Chrisx ps
