Thursday Post- TAD / Surrealism

Hi Everybody!

Rain's theme today is surrealism - Surrealism was a cultural movement which developed in Europe in the aftermath of World War I and was largely influenced by Dada. The movement is best known for its visual artworks and writings and the juxtaposition of distant realities to activate the unconscious mind through the imagery.

Some of the most famous artists of this movement are Breton, Dali, Ernst, Magritte, Picasso, Frida Kahlo, Miró and many others- You can see their works in many galleries and museums. Today I am sharing some of my 'knock-offs' again and a few of my 'originals'

Pablo Picasso:
I tried a few variations of this:

Joan Miró:

Kandinski (actually more of an expressionist, but I like him)

This is a self portrait, it's scary enough to be surrealistic:

Another idea of mine:

Marc Chagall:

Pablo Picasso:

My interpretation of surrealism using photos of Picasso:

A surrealist version of van Gogh with the sower walking outside the picture:

René Margritte:

A strange piece from me:

A variation of Margritte again:

Some of mine again:

A surrealist photo of me:

And some of my surrealist heads - there's always something going on inside my head:

Congratulations, you have reached the end!

Have a great day, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

  6. My goodness, I should have packed a lunch before embarking on this marathon! But what an interesting journey it has been, Valerie. Rain obviously keyed in on a field in which you have great expertise, talent, and a deep knowledge of the artists who introduced surrealism to the world. I can tell you that I have really enjoyed this, especially some of your "originals" where you capture the spirit of the genre in ways that indicate that you understand it. My mind is so pedestrian that I am quite sure I could never have conceived any of this, and I am filled with admiration. It must have been great fun for you to immerse yourself in the exercise. Of course, you can really let go, since there are no rules and the limits are only bound by your imagination. Of that, I can see you are blessed with enough for both of us. Hugs and kisses. David

    1. Hi David! Sorry, it was rather a long post today, I should have offered B&B with it! I love surrealism, and always enjoy making my own interpretations. I am sure you understand this art form very well. Next time I'll have to make surreal birds galore, that would be fun. We have so many flying around here in Balconia! I a, always amazed at how many birds and insects and plants you can name. I mean, I can differentiate, too, I do know the difference between birds, fish, plants and animals, so that's something! It's really cold here today, but the sun is shining, and I enjoyed my walk. Have a great day, hugs!

  7. Valerie,

Your art is always delightful but I had a good laugh of the workings of a man and woman's mind - so true! I hadn't thought of a shadow selfie is a good representation of a surrealism. In fact, I'm sharing such a photo in tomorrow's Skywatch Friday segment. Thanks for sharing and have a doodletastic day, my dear!

  16. I apologize for being so late visiting today. I'm having eye problems. Not to worry. I'm getting better so I'll be able to post everyone at the regular time just like the start of this month.

You have given us some wonderful interpretations of Surrealism. I can tell this is a favorite of yours. I love the way you interpreted Miro, another favorite of mine. I had forgotten about Chagall, so I'm glad you shared some of your own art based on his work. You really impressed me with all you created and shared this week. You put my post to shame, dear.

  19. Wow, Valerie! Your art work is beautiful, and you show a real understanding of surrealism. You are truly talented and inspiring! One thing I've learned on this art journey with you, Rain, and the others is that surrealism and pop art are two art genres that I love. I wasn't able to try surrealism this week, but hopefully I can give it a shot this week. Hugs to you!

  23. I love that the Bull finally wins in your Picasso series :) Have never been a fan of Bull Fighting ... too much of an animal lover. As Surrealism is a figment of the mind it is appropriate that so much of your work was a look into figurative minds and LOL, I loved your Male-Female Versions of the brain. So True, so True! Yes, "Every Possibility begins with the Courage to Imagine" and no one could have demonstrated that better than you in your post today. This is a stimulating and enjoyable collection of Surreal Art by you, today, Valerie. Your creative mind is endless and wonderful ...
