Saturday Post / 9.11

Hi Everybody!

On September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Almost 3,000 people were killed during the 9/11 terrorist attacks, which triggered major U.S. initiatives to combat terrorism and defined the presidency of George W. Bush.

Today we commemorate the 20th anniversary of this terrorist attack on the USA and all of the free world, and remember those who died, and those who endangered and sometimes lost their own lives trying to rescue others.

Love illuminates it."

  9. Thank you for this tribute, Valerie. It is not a day I will likely ever forget. We had a clock radio at the time and I remember waking up hearing the news cast. At first I thought it was a horrible dream or a dramatization of some kind. The whole world was stunned and traumatized for weeks,at least.

  17. It does feel like yesterday in many ways, though the 20 years of war we've suffered since seem to've lasted forever :(
