DeleteMy favourite form of transportation has always been, and is now, what we referred to as “Shank’s pony” when I was a boy. In other words, my own two feet. Does that count as transportation or is that just movement? It is certainly not the fastest mode of transport, but the most interesting, I think. On Sunday I led a nature walk, yesterday another and this morning I will be doing it again, all propelled by my own two feet. All the people who come along with me have the pleasure of discovering the hidden treasures of nature, some very small, none of which would be visible to them by any other form of transport. In the process twenty or thirty keen participants are able to ask questions, get to know each other, feel the wind in their face, respond to the urging of their muscles, and overall have a fine time. And they learn too! It seems to me that when the prize is handed out for the best method of transportation, Shank’s pony wins hands down. Hugs and kisses - David

I started walking to school in London so I could save the bus money, and until I got so ill I enjoyed walking miles each day, through the fields, along the Rhine - everywhere where it was green and good. Now I just manage a short walk each day, but it's better than nothing! If I remember righty there was a song back when we were young and beautiful and it was about Shanks's pony.
