New Challenge at More Mixed Media Blog

Hi Everybody!

On the 5th of each month we start a new challenge at More Mixed Media. All of our challenges are anything mixed media goes, with an optional colour element. This month the colour is brown. You have 4 weeks to link to us, so hope to see you there. I made a mixed media 10"tag. The background was part of a larger painted and collaged piece which I chopped up to use for tags. The diamonds were made with embossing paste through a stencil, and then I sprinkled iron flakes onto them and rusted them. I added some rather chaotic elements of paper dolls and other cut outs, a small piece of embossed card left over from another project and a feather which I found on my balcony. I sewed it all to some wild, spotty cardstock that I have been trying to find a use for:

This piece was made months back, but I never posted it, and it has lots of brown, so I am including it here, too:

I am also linking to Paint Party Friday

And some photos taken at Hofgarten watching the water fowl:

That's all for today!
Have a great one, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

  2. Hi Val, good morning! Love the beautiful tag and journal page, they are both different, and your things are always unique and different, and that's what pleases me most. Great photos, too, good to see those lovely birds enjoying being fed, they always seem to be hungry. Have a great day, I'm off to a conference this afternoon, probably very boring....Hugs, sarah

  4. Those are super mixed media pages today Valerie. I love all the details you used. The contrast of the plaid man with the TH boys is super. And there is sure a variety of birds but nice to see the swans, and the black swan too. Happy Thursday. hugs-Erika

  6. I was super impressed with your tag. It is gorgeous and I loved how you added the feather to the girl's hat. The other mixed media entry is beautiful, too. For some reason, I never think of brown in such lovely tones as you have portrayed them in these entries. They are lovely.

Speaking of lovely, it's always a joy to see the fowl, especially the black swans.

    1. Brown is difficult, but sepia and rust are good shades of brown. I was able to pet one of the black swans yesterday, that was nice.

  9. Fun tags. I like the clock head man and the silhouette umbrella man makes me think of the dad sending his two boys out into the world. The swans are so beautiful. I don't think I've ever seen one on land. And reading the comment above, how cool that you got to pet a black swan. I've never seen a black swan either. Enjoy your day

  11. I'm struck by how that diamond pattern repeats and how perfect the polka dots are behind it all. Those birds know how to get what they want, don't they lol

  16. I love the pieces and especially the feather. It just sets off that little girl.
And those fowl are just precious. They've got pretty good size feet don't they? The better to paddle with, I guess.

  17. I love both of these art projects and all the the detail you added to them both, the feather is a great addition to the girls' hat. The shades of brown look good as well, a real contrast to the pops of brighter colour you added.
I loved the photos of the swans and waterbirds, they seem to be waiting in anticipation for a treat.
Haave a good rest of the week.

  32. Ooh, I feel like there is so much story filling both your creations today - they have fired my imagination with all those details and characters and layers. Who is the shadowy figure behind the two boys? A trickster to watch out for, surely, in that patterned paper. And the frivolity of the feathered girl is amazing, but there's a warning there too - the clock-face man, a reminder that time is running out even as she dances. Brilliant imaginative artwork.
