Hi Everybody!
It's weekend - enjoy!
I made another mixed media collage (8 x 8"), using a photo
of my Mum on a DP background, and adding sewing, peeled
and painted cardboard, and some natural materials as
embellishments. The quote was added digitally to be able to
link it to Jo's 'Poetry in Motion' challenge at Art Journal Journey.
The photo was added as a turpentine decal, which makes it so
wonderfully transparent, I like this technique! But you do
need to work outside because of the fumes:
The originals without the quote:
The tag is for Michele's 'Back to School' challenge at
Tag Tuesday. The sweet image is from Gecko Galz, and it
was coloured with some brush pens. I added some felt butterflies
around her hem, and some washi tapes. As always, I sewed it all
together and added some pink embellishments.
Hope to see YOUR tag at Tag Tuesday!
Some photos taken from the window of a room last week:
My walk home by the lakes and stream:
I have gathered teasels again:
Have a great day, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!
Beautiful and delightful posts. You have taken me on so many journeys and loved them all but this one today has amazed me. Are they pine cones? I am amazed...love your many walks and life on the other part of the world is beautiful.xxx [aNNie]
ReplyDeleteThey are cones from a larch tree, I love how they look, too!
DeleteA lovely post, as always. Your art is gorgeous, I especially love the piece with your Mum, I will print it out and take it to show my mine. Love the photos, you had a wonderful and romantic walk home, with so much beauty on your way. Have a fun day, will try to call you tomorrow when P is out! Hugs, Sarah
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful page Valerie and great that you could add a picture of your mum to make it special.
ReplyDeleteLove the tag and the amazing idea to decorate the bottom of the dress. We must have both been adding tags at the same time this morning.
It looks like Autumn already with all the berries and other wonderful things around you. All the berries here seem really bright colours this year and different to what usually appears. Must be a sign of the mixed weather we have had. Love the blue vetch and I haven't seen any for a very long time though we do get the yellow one on the coast.
Have a fantastic weekend
Love Chrissie xx
Yes, we both posted at about the same time - great minds and all that! We get blue and yellow vetch growing in abundance here, the butterflies always love it.
Deletegorgeous page and do love your nature pictures
ReplyDeleteLovely page! The transparency of the photo using the turpentine technique is amazing and the little cherubs add such charm 😁. You have captured Monroe's quote beautifully and the trim, glittery leaves and gold paint, script and outlines add to the vintage feel - beautiful sparkle! Your tag is adorable, I love the way you have edged her dress with those pretty pink butterflies 😁. Wow, those pine cones look huge and the photo of the butterfly and purple flowers caught my eye 😉. Thanks for joining my theme again at Art Journal Journey and wishing you a Happy Weekend dear Valerie! J 😊
ReplyDeleteWow gorgeous page, so much detail with the sewing and glitter, layers etc., love it! Your tag is also beautiful as well at your photographs. Have a great weekend xx
ReplyDeleteThe sepia tones of your page are gorgeous. I love how translucent the transfer image of your mother is.So cool to have a picture of her as a little girl. The tag is so cute. The little girl, in her first day of school outfit, looks so proud to be called on to recite. I like looking at the scenery along your walks. Those pinecones are huge! I really liked the Fraktur font on the Fliedner See sign. Also that bright blue. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteValerie, your sweet page of your Mum brought tears to my eyes. What a beautiful piece you created- I feel the love.
ReplyDeleteYour school tag is just darling and I love her butterfly trim!
Happy weekend my friend- sending hugs,Jackie
So lovely that you included a picture of your Mum, and I like the quote too!
ReplyDeleteA wonderful school tag too.
As always your photographs are wonderful. I always look forward to seeing them, and feel that I do walk and enjoy the scenery so much with you.

I do like the layering of your first piece. I haven't heard of turpentine transfer but it is really transparent. Makes a great addition to your piece. And the little girl has such a pink dress. Very cute. Looks like the weather has been nice and you have been out enjoying it. Happy weekend. Hugs erika
ReplyDeleteYou will learn about it in the new book you have ordered.

Very nice mixed media piece, Valerie. I rarely have to work outside if it's just polymer medium but if it gets too smelly, I avoid it. Probably limits what I do but safer.
ReplyDeleteThe cones in the tree are so pretty! At least I think they are cones- I have never seen anything quite like them.
ReplyDeleteYour outdoor photos are so beautiful. Love them!
I find the step by step process of your artwork so fascinating. So wonderful to see how it all comes together. :)

Another treat of a post Valerie! Love the collage/journal page! The tag is fabulous too! All of your photos are wonderful but must say that although those cones are striking it is the Vetch with the butterfly that really caught my eye! Hugs, Chrisx
ReplyDeleteValerie, I cherish you and your blog!!! I love both pieces of art work! Priceless! Gorgeous photos! Love the cones! Big Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your AJJ entry and was intrigued by the turpentine transfers. I was even MORE impressed with the leaf you sprinkled with gold flakes.
ReplyDeleteYour beautiful tag for back to school is wonderful. I am SO ready to make one as soon as I get to feeling better.
Wow, I don't think I've ever seen pine cones forming before. Those were some fabulous photos!
I've not come across this technique at all Valerie, but your Mum looks amazing. It's a really lovely piece xx
