Hi Everybody!
Hope your week is going well. It's still pretty warm here, although not as hot as last week, and we are still waiting for the promised rain. The earth is so parched, leaves are falling off the trees and the grass is brown and scorched. This is the second summer that it has been so dry. The climate is changing!
This A3 mixed media piece was made last week in my sleepless nights. I just had fun playing about with colours, stencils, scraps of netting, sewing and bits of old paintings which I have cut up to use as embellishments or paper for die-cuts etc:
I started off with this painted, textured and splattered background, which had been used as an underlay while working on other pieces:
The moon face is from Dina Wakley, and was stenciled onto an old piece of painted paper and fussy cut, as was the sentiment, dress and legs:
I love the cheerful mix of colours and materials:
I am linking to Simon Monday challenge, bright and cheerful, TIOT, splatters and splodges, to Soma's Wandering camera
and to Paint Party Friday.

Yesterday I went on a walk across several of the bridges here, as it always cooler along the Rhine and over the bridges. Here I am looking back from the Theodor-Heuss Bridge. The little town where I live is round one of the river bends, so can't be seen from here:
Big shadows - I'm the little spot right from the centre:
Looking towards the Oberkasseler Bridge:
(Spell-check suggested 'Bookseller' instead of Oberkasseler!)
I sat down for a coffee in the 'Cafe de Paris' in Oberkassel:
Then I went on along the shore towards the next bridge, the Johannes-Rau Bridge:
The bridge leads over to the Altstadt of Düsseldorf:
Lambertus Basilica has a crooked tower. The square around the church is always a place of peace and tranquility:
I will show the photos taken inside the church in my next post.
Have a great day, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!
Once again your post is brilliant and the photos taking me on my journey again. Beautiful church. xx

Love the splatters and the stitching. It's a great piece of art :-) Wonderful colours and happy. Fab photos of where you live, with its huge bridges and lots of wonderful buildings. That twisted spire looks amazing. You really DID walk some distance!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you played with us at Try it on Tuesday in our Splatters and Splodges challenge.

Thanks Cath! I did indeed walk a long way, 27000 steps, and I was tired out by the time I got home!
DeleteHi Valerie wow love your work ,the colours are so pretty and I like the words too, well done my friend.
ReplyDeleteLovely pics thankyou for sharing them with us xx
Love your work,shat vivid colors!☺
ReplyDeleteYou have so many interesting places to walk Valerie. I can only go left or right out of my driveway and neither way is as exciting as bridges and their shadows and views. And I do LOVE your art today. Very very clever and the colors make me happy. Stay cool and I hop the rain comes. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteThanks! We are indeed lucky to have so many varied places which can be reached on foot and/or with a short tram-ride.
DeleteLovely work!
ReplyDeleteThanks Marjut!
DeleteYour art journal page is fantastic. I laughed at the words. My grass is starting to burn out from the heat, too, and the trees are dropping a few leaves here also. Wonderful photos from your walk. It's nice to walk along and see the water. That church steeple is an interesting shape. Great architecture photos. I hope things cool down for you and you get some rain. (We're supposed to get thunderstorms after 3pm, which I hope break our heat.)
ReplyDeleteThe Church steeple is a famous landmark here.
DeleteSuch a fabulous piece of art Valerie, I love it! Great photos of your walk too.
ReplyDeleteAlison xx
Your piece is purrfect!
ReplyDeleteThe contrast in the size of your shadow with the bridge...amazing.
We got rain last night. Thank goodness. I have noticed the few leaves that are falling are black. I find that a bit unnerving.
Hugs
Yes the bridges are really huge.
DeleteI love your piece Valerie, fabulous fabrics and stitching. Your photographs are wonderful too, what a beautiful and interesting place to live. Take care and stay cool, Sue x
ReplyDeleteAll those bridges! How many miles did you walk? Spell check made me laugh and the cafe looks like a nice place to take a break. I enjoyed your walk and your journal page. Stay cool! ❄️ ❄️ ❄️
ReplyDeleteIt was 23 kilometers, and I was really knocked out by the time I staggered back home. But I still enjoyed it very much!
DeleteI love your art journal page today, dear. I love the sewing, the sentiment, and the bright bold colors.
ReplyDeleteI always LOVE your walks. They are ambitious, but always take us beautiful and unique places. You find the best things, architecture, and scenes to photograph.
Beautiful mixed media piece Valerie. So glad the heat improved. Your photos belie the heat.
ReplyDeleteI like Café de Paris:)
ReplyDeleteThe head and heart are definitely separate entities aren't they?
Hugs
They certainly are!
DeleteOh Valerie! I really love this, the richness of those colours and the stitching are lovely but it is the figure and the words that made me smile most! I am so happy that you shared it at Try it On Tuesday - Thank you! I love seeing your river side walk and was wondering how far you walked when I was scrolling down and spotted it on Cath's comment! That is a long way - the most I have ever done is 22,000...and I was really tired then!!! Hugs, Chrisxx

It always looks so beautiful Valerie, no matter what the weather. Just think of how many people you take on your walks with you.. we are all there hee hee!! My Daughter had a fabulous time, she is back home now but her friend came back over with her so the house is very busy at the moment.
ReplyDeleteYou have been very productive with your sleepless nights, I'm loving this quirky page. A great take on those words. Hope the weather has began to calm down for you? We are having unpredictable flash floods, the world really has gone mad.

I hear you about the climate change. When I lived in Germany many years ago, I fell in love with its cool/cold climate. I can't even begin to imagine Germany being that hot. You made good use of your sleepless nights. The "Found my heart" is incredible. I always enjoy your walks. Lovely photos. I specially liked the "Big Shadows" - the little you and the massive structure :)
ReplyDeleteLove that you are linking up on Wandering Camera!!
