Hi Everybody!
Another week has flown by and it's Friday again.
It is already the middle of October, and Halloween is coming nearer. Last night I dreamed that a bony hand was gripping my shoulder, but it was just a clothes-hanger that I had evidently left on my bed. Okay, annoying, but better than a bony hand!
For Art Journal Journey, Architecture, I have a haunted roof-top scene today.
The witch's cat is standing on a roof-top, watching what's going on in the sky above her. The mixed media A3 page has a painted background, onto which I collaged the red roofs and chimneys, which I cut from old book paper and painted red. I drew the houses in the background and painted them a shadowy grey. The moon is dark, and a spider is climbing up - or down?
I am also linking to Paint Party Friday, hosted as always by Eva and Kristin - thanks Ladies!

Here I am re-showing my version of a portrait of Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo's husband, painted in 1914 by Amadeo Modigliani. I drew and painted the face, using water colours and pastels, and fixed it to a background made with brushos and a large swirl stamp. The quote is from Frida.

And now some photos to remind us that Autumn has wonderful days, not just the cold wet days we had here this week!
Have a great day you all, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

ReplyDeleteYour journal page has so many fascinating elements ... especially love the witch stamp you use. She has such attitude. Autumn .. lovely peaceful photos. Enjoyed your Diego very much. I am entrenched in their lives now, having seen so much of their work, and spending a day with Frida at her home. Gotta say, they fascinate me. Enjoy your day - hope it's getting warmer. hugs, Donna
ReplyDeleteI sure chuckled about the clothes hanger! So cute...and love the Halloween witch scene and I am loving the two male faces you have done lately...your style shines through wonderfully!! Spooktacular post my dear!
ReplyDeleteHugs Giggles
Oh creepy dream alright....., your Halloween piece is a lot more to my liking, beautiful background colours! I remember the Diego piece, a wonderful portrait! The amazing colour explosions this Autumn are so beautiful and your photographs show case them so well!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photographs and you captured the wonderful colours of Autumn perfectly.
ReplyDeleteThe page is terrific and I enjoyed the journey around the different things as you told us what was where--could turn into a book I reckon.
Frida's husband painting is wonderful and Frida's words so powerful.
Have a great day
Love Chrissie xx
Your modern witch gets up to all sorts of things. I like her broom waiting patiently, like a parked car, and her friends who have come down to say hello.
ReplyDeleteNearly spilled my coffee when I read about the coat-hanger, I bet the coat-hanger had a laugh.
ReplyDeleteschönes we.
hugs jenny
The bony hand story is just great! Poor you, though - what a spooky shock! I love your witch on the roof top - such a terrific use of colour! Great Diego face - what a partnership they were! xx
ReplyDeleteBefore I went to sleep I was reading a book where someone finds a bony hand in her fireplace....
DeleteLove your witchy art great painting and Diego looks fabulous too xx
ReplyDeleteLOVE the Halloween rooftop scene Valerie!
ReplyDeleteFabulous rooftop scene! The color is wonderful. Watch out for hangars.. Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteooooh fabulous spooky scene Valerie. It looks to me as if spiders are aliens and maybe from the dark side of the moon, and its trying to come down in its spider-shaped spaceship but the bats are on guard and will defeat it :) Great architecture!
ReplyDeleteLove LOVE Diego - wonderful eyes - fantastic work!
Hope you're having a better day than your night and no more trouble with scary bony hands
Gill xx
What a scary thought with the spiders!
Deleteooh I am loving your spooky scene!
ReplyDeleteHere in US halloween is totally over the top. I love it in all its kitchy glory
Before I came here I did not know that many adults dress up for halloween
Happy PPF
That spooky rooftop is great! I love it all nod the spider from the moon. Beautiful portrait.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful autumn photos. Great rendering of Diego Rivera.Your art journal page is fun. I like to see think that the spider is coming down to check you out. It's lonely on the moon.

Loved reading this post, hope the hanger is nowhere near the bed tonight. Its a fabulous page, love the colours and of course the witch. Super photos of the leaves.
ReplyDeleteYvonne xx
Lovely halloween painting - and your fall foliage photos are beautiful!! We are only beginning to get some color in Missouri! Happy PPF :)
ReplyDeleteGreat Halloween art ☺I love the painting ans the Frida quote around is perfect! nice fall color you have going there.I haven't been out if the house for a few days so I haven't seen any of ours. I do know by looking out the window that the leaves are falling off the oak trees like crazy. :(
ReplyDeleteThe fall colors are amazing!! so lovely!
ReplyDeleteYes, they are, you got that right!
Deletehuuuuhuuuu, it's spoooooky here today, eeeeeek! :)
ReplyDeleteI was SO impressed with the architecture you created. Looks like you took lots of time to make it, too. Of course, the witch was perfect, the spider on the moon was great, but the cat was the best! How frightfully delightful.
ReplyDeleteGuess you only got rain because I saw a part of Germany was blanketed with snow this week. My tree leaves are still mostly green, although some of them have turned brown and littered the ground. Love the colors in your world so much better than in mine right now.
It snowed quite near here, but we just got freezing rain!
DeleteLove your spooky art and the red leaves. Funny about the coat hanger!!
ReplyDeleteI love the detail of your painting! :D I also adore your photos of Fall. They fill my eyes.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great skyscape - love the way you put it all together for your cat and witchy gal. But my fav part is the broom... just suspended there waiting for it's next flight. I'm hoping that it got to carry all three - the witchy gal, her bird and the cat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I laughed out loud reading the quote and thinking that Diego was worse than getting knocked down by a streetcar!!!! Whew!!
Totally in love with all your fall photos. Seriously beautiful to see. Thank you so much for bringing such loveliness into my life with your photos and your artwork Valerie! j.
I love this colourful Halloween page with it's fun elements! Great portrait and of course the brilliant photos! It has turned colder here now but the colours are still brightening things up! Chrisx
ReplyDeleteDefinitely better than a bony hand! :) Love your witch, and all the other details in your Halloween page. Autumn is such an inspiring season, isn't it!
ReplyDeleteYour Halloween art is terrific! The photos are lovely. Yup, be careful of the hanger :)
