Faces and famous buildings

Hi Everybody!

I have another A3 mixed media  journal page for Art Journal Journey, architecture. The background was a brush-wipe page. I collaged the lady - an image from one of my old magazines from 1899, printed onto book paper and fussy cut. Then I used lots of stamps to decorate her hat, and I am sure you will recognise the buildings. I embellished her hat with a flourish and some flowers. and added a quote from Sir Winston Churchill.
I am also linking to Paint Party Friday, hosted as always by Eva and Kristin.

And I am joining in with Elizabeth's '2nd on the 2nd', which is a second look at an older post. I chose this journal page which is a copy of Modigliani's Maude Abrantes, made for a challenge some months back. It was worked with water colours and pastels for the face, and acrylics, brushos and pastels for the background. I am linking to 49 Faces and Kim Dellow's Friday show your face.

I love the autumn leaves:

Today started out with wonderful colours and Venus, the morning star:

And some architecture from here:

Have a great day you all, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

  2. First, thanks for joining Second on the 2nd, even though it doesn't go live here for a little over two hours. Don't you wish everyone was on the same time?

I was really impressed with your architecture piece, and once again, I wondered which came first, the quote or the art. They both went SO well together, including the very British phone booth and Big Ben.

I really like your second look and I believe I remember that Modigliani entry. So very glad you shared it again.

And, as always, I simply adore the autumnal photos, as well as some of the architecture around your city. You find the best of the best photos each day, and today is definitely no different.

Again, thanks for sharing your Second look on the 2nd.

    schönes WE, Valerie!

    1. Die Blätter kommen zuerst in Künstler Mappen, und später wenn ich ein Thema fertig habe, werden sie meist gebunden, entweder mit einem Thermobinder oder Spiraldrähte.

  14. Wonderful creative thinking yet again, Valerie. ADORE her had -- want one! I am a fan of Modigliani's, and have been toying with the idea of doing some portrait lookalikes in the same type as Artists I admire. Great walk again this morning. It really is Autumn isn't it. One is never sure here ... in such a temperate climate things are pretty much the same all year round. Beautiful photos. hugs, Donna

  15. I love your architecture lady! You have some great famous building stamps. What a fun hat that would be! And great sunrise photos...and your architecture photos too. The ruins look particularly nice with those bare trees. Its like the whole landscape is in ruins. Something about old buildings and autumn seem to go together! Have a great weekend!

  28. Hi Valerie, the headdress on your lady today is fabulous; I love he buildings. You use such rich colors in your art pages to make them standout and cheery. It is raining here today so no bright sunny skies for us. Your photos are wonderful and especially the photo of the building with the light shining through the window openings, probably a section of the castle. Have a great weekend.
    Hugs,

  31. as always - gorgeous pictures Valerie --
I especially love the hot, hot, colors you have used on your journal page. She certainly is a well traveled lady!
I am not sure the second lady is happy - the dark circles under her eyes betrays a lot of sleepless nights. Perhaps she feigns at happiness.
You are so interesting to follow -

  42. I think we all need a hat with building on it, or a nested tangle of hair full of miniatures. xox

  43. I really like the way you added the buildings to the top of her head. It is almost like she is a world traveler and she is reminiscing about all the places she has been with fond memories and a smile on her face. The other page is gorgeous as well. I'm still loving the photo's, too. I especially love the one with the stone/brick face and open windows. It is sad it is in such a state but beautiful nonetheless in the state in which it is in... Enjoy your weekend, Valerie! :-)
