Weekend Post

Hi Everybody!

It's weekend, enjoy!

Today I am sharing another piece for Mia's butterfly challenge at AJJ. It's a hybrid piece put together  with a painted background, photos, and digital elements from Serif. The image in the frame is from the Graphics Fairy:

A beautiful butterfly photo:

I am continuing the tour through the Altstadt of Düsseldorf as many people liked the photos I showed.
Düsseldorf is one of the big Carnival hotspots, so lots of statues commemorate the festivities:

One of the traditional old pubs:

The lion of Düsseldorf:

The old harbour:

A sign at the Uerige Pub:

Altstadt houses:

Advertising columns (Litfaß Säule)

Swans on part of the old moat:

Hope you enjoyed your walk with me, I will show more next week!
Have a great weekend, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

  5. That is a fabulous journal page. It may be my favorite this month. It is just perfect for Mia's theme, too. Thanks for yet another great entry at AJJ.

Those old buildings and statues are amazing. I absolutely adore the window boxes, something you seldom see here. I really enjoyed all the photos you shared today.

    1. Thanks. Window boxes belong to most European cities, I always loved them as a kid in London, and enjoy them everyday here when I go out! Have a great weekend!

  6. Such a lovely walk through your city - and to places I have not seen. I love the statues and always remember the one commemorating the battle between the Archbishop of Köln and the citizens of Dusseldorf. Each time I visited I had to go back to see it.
Your journal piece is breathtaking. The composition is perfect - I love how you have linked so much to the bottom right corner and nestled the watch face and the butterfly between the clusters of flowers. A definite favourite page of mine.
    Hugs, Neet xx

  9. More butterflies, so my weekend is getting off to a good start, Valerie. Actually when I opened the door to the deck this morning when I first got up an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail drifted by, so it really has been a lepidopteran start to the day. It had better be careful, however, there were a couple of crows scanning for breakfast and a swallowtail appetizer might be on their menu! I had always thought of Düsseldorf as a grimy, industrial city, but as you are showing us with these delightful images of the old section of town it has hidden charms. Well, maybe not even hidden. The Mute Swan is as elegant as only a swan can be. Enjoy the weekend. Hugs and kisses. David

    1. Hi David! How nice o be greeted by a beautiful swallowtail- I was woken up by the not so sweet melody of the crows, who were holding a gathering in the tree behind the garden! Düsseldorf has a few not-so-nice corners but on the whole it's a great city, even though I don't want to live there. Many of the old, industrial areas have been turned into galleries, event locations and apartments for people with more money than sense! I always love watching the swans and their young. I had a nice walk through Kaiserswerth this morning, read the newspaper and drank lots of coffee. Now the washing is in the machine, and I'm thinking about what I could make for my dinner later on....Have a great weekend, hugs to you both!

I can't imagine living in a place like this where buildings reach back so deep into history while continuing to be in use. Amazing!

  18. Nice photos of Düsseldorf! I'm not a big Karneval fan, but I do like the statues. The house with the bells looks interesting. I don't know Uerig beer - is it good?

    1. Thanks Carola! I hate carnival, but as you say, the statues are great! Uerige is an Altbier but I am not a beer drinker, and I've never tried it. The pub is always crammed full, so people seem to like it! Have a wonderful Sunday!
