Midweek Post

Hi Everybody!

Greetings from a very hot and humid Düsseldorf! Either we get frozen or we get baked, the weather is crazy!

For Wendy's tag on tag challenge at Tag Tuesday I have another entry:

On Sunday 2 friends collected me and then we drove through Düsseldorf to the south of town. After parking the car, we walked through the Urdenbacher Kämpe - a nature protection area - and enjoyed the beautiful fields, meadows, animals and birds we saw on our way.

Then we arrived at the Rhine and boarded the ferry to take us across to Zons, a small town from the middle ages:

The shield shows St Martin cutting his cloak in half for  a poor beggar:

On the other side we walked through the fields till we got to Zons:

This is a beautiful model of the town:

The gateway leads into the walled town, and inside the town we had to be masked:

My companions greeting the bishop:

The photos of our ice  creams and drinks are being saved for next Tuesday!
Time went by quickly, and it was time to cross the river again and then walk back to the car:

There's a wonderful video of Zons which you can see here.
It's just under 15 minutes and well worth watching.

And we walked about 10 kilometres all together, so that was good!
I will show more photos in my next post!

Have a great day, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

  1. Nice tag. I like how you did your tag on tag in this one. And it is always so amazing to find such rural looking areas so close to cities. Thanks goodness for that. It looks like you had a great day in such a pretty place. And nice to know you could get an ice cream too. Hope your week is going well. Hugs-Erika

  4. That's a lovely tag on tag today, Valerie. I especially like the sewing.

Beautiful walk. Zons is gorgeous and the fields are beautiful. Much of the scenery seems to be unspoiled, too. This is a beautiful area and it was great you took us with you.

  9. The nature reserve looks quite lovely, Valerie, but it seems like a contradiction to have domestic cattle there and to cut the grass for hay. That seems destructive of a nature reserve to me. But an enjoyable walk no doubt. I am curious as to why you block out the faces of your friends. Had they requested that their identities not be revealed or is this a requirement in Europe? Zons really looks very agreeable and a place of great history. We never have that sense of going back for centuries, with medieval buildings and cobbled streets a thousand years old, and a statue on every corner. I expect that quite soon, at the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology, a statue of you will soon be commissioned, erected in honour of your numerous discoveries of new species, and even families new to science. People will flock (!) to have their picture taken alongside you, and since it will be a statue they will be at liberty to leave your beautiful face unblemished! Enjoy the end of the week and the weekend coming up. Hugs and kisses. David

    1. Hi David! The people who live there are allowed to use the ground for biological farming governed by strict rules. The European data protection act forbids showing faces of people who haven't been explicitly asked, and I could not ask them in the middle of the night when writing the post! I love places that are steeped in history like here and in Zons. I think people might flock to throw rotten tomatoes at me! Short reply today, not feeling very well, so trying to take it easy! Hugs to you both!

  20. Well, I am going to go and sit in the sun and watch the video, that sounds really interesting, what a lovely day out you had. I love the fields that you walked through, how lovely to see all those red poppies. I never see them up in the north of England growing like that, we tend to have the yellow and orange Welsh poppies growing wild but not the red ones. And they are my favourite!
How nice of your friends to take you out for the day like that.
The tag you made is beautiful, it is a tag within a tag and it really is very pretty and summery.
Take care and enjoy the sunshine
