TGIF!

 Hi Everybody!

After having a fun and quiet day on Tuesday, I decided yesterday I had to do some housew**k, and I did. Yes, the full programme, and after that I was tired and needed to put my feet up. But things do look better now, and here and there it just has to be done! To make up for it I went for a long walk today, first along the Rhine and then through the fields to Castle Kalkum. Afterwards I was so knocked out I could hardly walk, so I took the bus from the castle which took me into Kaiserswerth, and just had to walk the last 2 kilometres home. And I rewarded myself with a nice lunch and loads of coffee and a piece of chocolate (Or was it 2 pieces? I forgot to count!!)

I have another A4 mixed media page to share. I made a textured background as I showed in my tutorial last Friday, and then painted the circles. The dragonfly wings were stenciled and glittered with Stickles, and the little girls were fussy cut and glued on. The corners were made with scraps of paper napkins. To finish it I added the stars and the sentiment. I am linking to Jo's texture challenge at AJJ, and to PPF:

Today I was accompanied on my walk through the fields by this lovely dragonfly:

I was happy to see that the flower bike is still there and looking good:

The old water mill:

I always have fun taking photos with the traffic mirror:

When I go through the old portal in the walls it's like entering another world, one filled with peace and beauty, which is especially good in these difficult times:

I always love the reflections in the moat:

And much to my joy, I discovered a family of Nile geese resting in the midday sun. They breed here in late summer /early autumn:

I kept my distance so that they didn't feel disturbed, as they can be very aggressive when their young are endangered:

More photos to follow!

Have a great day, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

  2. I hate when housework has to happen, but we have to do it sooner or later. I love your latest mixed media page and of course I love all the beautiful photos from your walk. I love the old portal. The Nile geese are really pretty, and it's always fun spotting any creatures with their babies. Have a great evening - or whatever time of day it is there :D

  12. Ugh, home work! But what a lovely walk! So many nice pictures! Love dragonflies, but not so much the Nile geese, as they are neozoa and push aside our native birds, because they are so aggressive. Although they are beautiful birds. :) The old mill is a beautiful building. Is it still working or a museum?

    1. We have lots of foreign breeds these days, and I think they are here to stay. The mill is a family home these days.

  13. Oh how charming. Your journal page is a delight today with the girls and their dragonfly wings. It was even more enjoyable seeing the dragonfly walk with you on your walk.

Speaking of walk. It's been a LONG time since I saw you take photos of the traffic mirrors. I think that is my favorite shot of the day, or maybe the moat. Too many. Like the bike and its flowers that are so well taken care of, and the Nile geese. How I would LOVE a feather from one of the adults. They look so beautiful. Have a super Friday, dear.

Dein Spaziergang hat soch gelohnt mit all den wundervollen Szenen mit den Gans und den Jungen wie süss. Das Fahrrad ist so hübsch udn der Wassergraben. Gerne war ich wieder hier bei dir!

  16. Oh! that last photo of the reflection is stunning. I agree, birds do become quickly aggressive. Locally, one swan cob was responsible for killing 21 other swans as he protected his cygnets! Twenty one!
Don't overdo things! I have not walked as I should for fear of my knee giving out and leaving me in an embarrassing situation on the road!
    Hugs, Deb

    1. Thanks Deb. A swan as multiple murderer, that's new! I do tend to overdo things, although I know I shouldn't - thanks goodness for buses. I know what you mean with your knee, that happened to me in winter 2015, and I was lucky that a nice man came along and drove me to the A & E. In 2016 I got a new knee, and that has helped a lot. Have a great day, take care!

  17. I never enjoy the thought of housework but feel much better when it's done ...lol 😀. Glad you put your feet up afterwards! Your page is so beautiful, I love the stars you added to the circles and wording and those little fairies with their dragonfly wings are fabulous, and there is so much texture too! Thanks so much for joining us at Art Journal Journey again, always a pleasure to see you there 😁. That's a fabulous shot of the dragonfly and so nice to be out and about with you today! Happy Friday and weekend! Hugs, Jo x

  21. You did housework? I think that Miriam is gearing up for a blitz here so I had better be on guard! If you can do it, I can do it! You seem to have pushed yourself a little too far on this walk, Valerie; thank goodness there was a bus to get you part way back home. But then you still had to walk two km. It must have been an effort to put one foot in front of the other, and you certainly earned your chocolate. The views along the byways of your area are as ever captivating, and the Nile Goose with babies is heartwarming. The moat around the castle is impressive, and I must be sure to telegraph the Canada Geese to take a swim there. Perhaps you would care to join them? I will look forward to pictures. Until tomorrow, big hugs de moi à toi. David

    1. Hi David, I did indeed! It was badly necessary! I was out walking again today, along the Rhine, a stop at the doc's for my injection and then to the farm at the end of the road. I saw geese, goats, pigs, horses, a donkey and a very loud but beautiful rooster. The Canada geese were all at the Rhine, where people are busy ploughing and sewing, so a magnet for the geese, cross and gulls. But no, I don't plan on swimming in the moat! Have a wonderful day, hugs to you and M!

  24. That dreaded 'H' word should be banned from the dictionary. I was happy to read that you had managed to enjoy some crafting and walks as well. You really deserved to rest after being so busy. The photos were a joy to look at, a means of escape for me to see some of the lovely scenery from your part of the world.
    Stay safe.
