Tuesday/Wednesday post

 Hi Everybody!

Hope your week is going well! Here it is much cooler, which is good, and I am hoping that I can soon really get back to doing more walking when I'm a bit stronger. I'm getting there slowly! Tomorrow I have the second part of the OP at the dentist, where she will cut away the inflamed part of the gums. I'll be happy when it's over!

For Alison's theme at AJJ I have another A3 mixed media journal page:

I love watching the tree behind our back garden and seeing the birds that congregate there. During the day it's mostly pigeons or crows - they don't like each other! In the evening the pigeons spend time there again, and then the magpies:

I love watching the clouds:

I visit the horses on the meadow every day when I walk to the Rhine:

The little park here is full of wild flowers:

Watching the Rhine is another of my hobbies:

Have a great day, take care,

and thanks a lot for coming by!

  1. Hi Val, good morning. I hope you slept well, I was so tired I slept like a log till the alarm went off. Got a quiet morning here, the kids are all in Kita or school, so that's right b me! Love the new journal page, and the colours which remind me of autumn, you are switching to the new season! Great page and a wonderful quote. Is it from you? Lovely photos, too. We have magpies in the garden, they make a lot of noise! Look after yourself, stay safe, hugs, Sarah

  5. Ah, you have real hummingbirds in this set of art, Valerie, just like the one that was sipping on flowers in my backyard yesterday. They are the most beautiful little creatures and it has been one of the great privileges of my life to have seen over 40% of the 330 or so species - all in the Americas! Cool weather must be such a relief for you. I am glad to hear that your final ordeal with the dentist will soon be over. No one should have to endure what you have had to deal with recently. I hope that your strength will recover too and that your walks will become both easier and longer. I will be sure to instruct all the birds to watch over you, to visit regularly and provide amusement. It's the least they can do. Hugs and kisses, David

    1. Hi David! Humming birds are indeed beautiful, they have them in one of the rooms in the nature / aquarium museum here, I almost cried because they were so gorgeous. I wish I could see them in nature. If you tell the birds here to look after me, please tell them not to poop on my freshly washed jeans jacket again! What a cheek!
I will be happy when the dentist is finished tomorrow, these past weeks were really hard. This morning 2 magpies and the flock of pigeons in the tree had a right battle, lots of bird-swearing and evil beaking before the pigeons went and left the magpies! Too funny! I need to do some shopping this afternoon, I woud like to cook something again after living off yogurt and blueberries for weeks. Have a wonderful day, hugs to you and M!

  6. I love your ladies and their embrace of nature. What a cool page for Alison's challenge at AJJ. Glad too to hear your weather has cooled off a bit and that you are getting better.. It will be good to get the dentist done with for sure. (Or hopefully it will be done with-sending good luck wishes). And those photos are great. The clouds in the first one almost look like a painting the way the light is playing off of them. Happy Tuesday dear Valerie. hugs-Erika

  19. I just now finished visiting the last of the T group and see I'm already very late to your Wednesday party. I love what you wrote on the tag. Show respect for all human beings. I wish EVERYONE felt that way, but, at least in this country, we seem more divided than ever. I love the nature inspired art and the women, too. Thank you for sharing this with us at Art Journal Journey, dear.

LOVE seeing the horses and that anchor at the entrance to the Rhine. Possibly my two favorite shots today, although the sky shots are simply amazing, too.

I hope after tomorrow, you can put those dental appointments behind you. You are quite brave, but at least you are saving your teeth. I'll be thinking about you while you have this procedure.

  34. That is a lovely page Valerie. I do like how you achieved that background, especially where the figures are. It looks textural. It reminds me of where you have used the 'kissing' technique and it leaves a kind of texture behind with the acrylic paint. But yours is even nicer than that so I am clueless as to how you did it. Lovely page though, gorgeous colours.
I like your photographs too and the horse one looks so tranquil I can just imagine you being at peace there. We too have crows and magpies and pigeons but they all come out and about together - the magpies terrorise the poor pigeons who waddle about because they are so fat.
    Hugs, Neet xx

    1. Thanks Neet. The technique for the textured background is very easy. Just a big splurge of gesso with 2 or 3 little spots of colour on top of it, then use a brayer to squash it over the page with up and down movements and let it dry. Quick, easy and effective. The pigeons here are big and fat, too, but today they look very bedraggled after the storm.
