2nd on the 2nd and more

Hi Everybody!

First of all I have a quick hybrid journal page for Alison's challenge at AJJ, where she wants to see pockets or tags on the pages. I used one of my tags - I have loads of tags I can use for this purpose! I placed it onto a hand-painted background. The floral corners, dancer and text were added in Serif:

For Elizabeth's 2nd on the 2nd I have a selection of journal pages made in 2015 for a 'time' themed challenge:

And a repeat of the old toys and other articles in the farm museum:

So many kids today spend their time playing with electronic devices, but never get to learn the wonder of playing with things like these and crating their own realms of fantasy.

Have a great day, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

  1. Hi Val, another wonderful post today! Love the page with the dancer, and good to see all the time-themed pieces again. I'll have another look at the photos later with the kids, they're still all sleeping. For which I am thinking. They're enjoying being here at Leah's it's like a holiday for them. I hope we can get back on Wednesday at the latest. Take care of yourself, get plenty of rest! Hugs, Sarah

    Lieben Gruss Elke

  3. Love those journal time pages, wow, they are brilliant...great photos today... The kids of today wouldn't know what great toys we had as kids, though my DIL and son make sure our little Sofia still has wonderful educational toys...and books. xx

  5. I love your ballet themed art. Oh, those toys! Echoes of a bygone era, when playing was so much simpler, more stimulating and engaging, and so much more elegant than the video games and consoles of today.

    1. Thanks so much Deb! I think kids today miss out so much when the are 'online' and 'connected from the time they can hold a gadget. Pity! Have a great day!

  6. I know I'm supposed to start at the top and comment from there, BUT, you KNOW where I'm starting, don't you? Those rocking horses were wonderful the first time you showed them and they are even more wonderful to see the second time around. I absolutely LOVE seeing old rockers that can never, ever be duplicated or mass produced like in today's world. Thank you for bringing these back, dear.

I remember the month you focused on Time. Each of these was a real beauty and wonderful second look. Yes, I DO remember them and I'm glad you brought them back so we can see them again. And share them for the first time to those who have never seen them before. I was really amazed I remembered these, because I didn't realize how long we've been friends. Seems like time has really sped up lately. Thanks beyond belief for sharing the rocking horses (and other toys) and Time inspired art with us as your second look on the 2nd.

It was fun to see a journal page for Alison's theme at Art Journal Journey. What struck me most was how you made the dancer appear to hold the tag by placing her left hand behind the tag. That made all the difference in the world to me. Thanks for this first entry at Art Journal Journey in August, dear.

    1. Thanks E! I thought you just might start with the rocking horses! Yesterday there was a programme on TV ALL about wooden rocking horses, you would have enjoyed it! Glad you liked the journal page, too, and I have very many tags to make more! I saw a cat just like Bleubeard sitting in the window of a neighbouring house. Have a great day!

    1. Thanks Lucyna. Rocking horses are indeed wonderful, and it's sad that many kids today don't know them or get to play with them. Good health to you, too, stay safe and have a wonderfu day!

  8. Good morning Valerie: I am not quite sure of the dimensions of these tags you show, but it looks to me that they would make lovely bookmarks. You will not be surprised to hear that I applaud your use of birds once again, especially the two at the nest. That kind of activity is mostly over for the year by now, but we have young birds of every description everywhere you look it seems. The exhibits from the museum are fascinating and really do transport us back to former times. I hope that your body is recovering from all the intrusions it has dealt with recently. Hugs and kisses from across the sea. David

  9. Thanks David, good morning to you, too! The tags are mostly larger than books, and aren't always flat as I use other things on them. But occasionally I do make some which are suitable as book marks! The jay here have young again, they were scrounging on my balcony yesterday and enjoyed a feast of pumpkin seeds. I am slowly feeling bit better, but I think I still need to take things easy for a few days, although I was out for a nice, early-morning walk before sunrise this morning! Now I'm off for an afternoon nap, it's that time already here! Have a great day, hugs to you both!

  10. The little dancer on your tag is so cute and dreaming of being a ballerina. Your time interpretations are wonderful. My favorite is the butterfly clock. The antique toys are marvelous. Elizabeth is going to love all those rocking horses. Take care and enjoy your day.

  12. A gorgeous journal page Valerie and the sweet dancer on the tag looks lovely, she seems to be reaching out for the silhouette lady, a very clever design and wonderful inspiration for the new AJJ theme.
I enjoyed seeing the photos of the toy museum again, they will last many more years than some of today's modern ones.
    Stay safe.

  14. What a great page today, Valerie. A bit of everything. Your hybrid page is lovely and I just looooved a second view of all those tags related to time. I love the colours, and especially the quotes.
Elizabeth will certainly like the rocking horses in the toy museum. Children grew up in a rural environment and had toys that reflect that. They are lovingly and beautifully made. What a privilege to see them.
Wishing you a good weekend and I hope you are ok health wise.

Such an interesting museum! My daughter had a wooden rocking horse, handmade by someone in the next town over when we still lived in Germany. We still have it, however, it now is in OUR bedroom. When she was little she enjoyed playing with Playmobil - still some of the best toys for kids I think.

  26. Beautiful art pieces. So many awesome quotes about time too. Love all the details- I had a great time looking at them.

So cool to see all the old farm toys too. I always think about what someone from history would say if they came and saw the toys of today. They would probably think we're crazy! Spending so much money on toys would seem insane to them I think. Have a lovely week!
