Tuesday Post

 Hi Everybody!

Hope your week got off to a good start. It's getting colder and greyer here, so I'm hoping the sun will show itself again soon.

Today I am sharing a piece I made inspired by the lovely faces of Melanie Riverswho often ofers free videos and lessons for people who join her FB group. This is an A3 page with a background which was coloured by rolling my brayer over it:

Some progress shots. I started off with the drawing:

Various layers of paint:

And here I thought I was finished, until I realised I hadn't given her any hair:

And I made a special version for Wendy's birds challenge at AJJ:

And some atmospheric photos from this month last year - we had more leaves on the trees then:

Have a great day, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

  9. How lovely to see the stages of development of your Melanie Rivers class. I only use Facebook now for Sunday church service and following art groups, but I don't post on the groups yet. Super atmospheric landscape photos!
    Stay safe and well, Deb

  10. What beautiful women you create, Valerie, and when you add owls to the mix the vision is complete. Wise women and wise birds! This one looks like the fusion of an exotic Polynesian islander and a muse from the ancient past. I am about to get ready to leave for the hospital for my cataract surgery. It is still quite amazing to me that they will remove the clouded lens and install a new one and I should be home right after lunch. Modern surgical techniques could never even have been dreamed if a few years ago, and there are doubtless new advances every day. When I return I will have laser vision, so watch out! I am quite sure I will be able to see all the way to Germany! If I skip a day with my comment you will know that it will only be on account of my eye, but hopefully I will be back at it quickly! Hugs and kisses, David

    1. Thanks David, much appreciated! Women and owl, or other birds, like crows, always make for a good combination. Good luck for the OP. It is really amazing how OP techniques have improved in past years, and that walk-in, walk-out surgery is now a possibility for so many things. Your laser vision will be a great help to you with your birding. Have a good rest after the OP, and see you again soon! Hugs and all good wishes!

  11. Your painted portrait is very dramatic and I do appreciate seeing the progression, I wish more people would show that, it makes the finished piece even more interesting.
Fun to see the lady with her falling leaves hair and her companions, the owls.
Your photographs are beautiful to see and any one would look marvellous framed on a wall. My favourites are the two with the mist.

    1. Thanks Sheila. I don't often do progression pics as it is time consuming and rather disruptive while painting, but here and there I manage it. Have a good and safe week!

  14. This is a lovely face. You did a great job with the skin tones, which can be difficult to get as seamlessly as you did. I love that leaf necklace too.

    Lieben Gruss Elke

  24. I swear Valerie, this isn't fair. I haven't had a chance to catch up at AJJ, and you are already on your MIDWEEK post.

She is truly lovely. I like the eyes, especially, and I also like how you added the owls for Wendy's theme at AJJ. You might want to slow down just a bit, dear, so I can catch up to you and catch my breath, too.
