Hi Everybody!
We had a cold and damp day again, but I am sure the weather will change again soon! That is one thing we can predict with certainty!
Today I have another page of dancing Nanas to share, inspired by Niki de Saint Phalle. I had a lot of fun painting it. The background was done with sky blue acrylic, sprinkled with fairy dust and textured with a dry background stamp. I used my stencils to draw the Nanas and had lots of fun colouring them and giving them happy bathing costumes. I am linking to Art Journal Journey, inspired by the masters, and to Paint Party Friday, hosted as always by Eva and Kristin.

This is a Nana figure I made some years back, using wire, paper and plaster bandages. She was made to hang from a hook on the ceiling. Unfortunately the hook was not strong enough, and sooner or later she fell down and broke her arm, which I have since repaired. I tried to hang her from the door to take the photos, and did my best, but hope to get someone to fix me a proper hook so she can fly free. She should have been a lot rounder, but I had to make do with the materials I had, and so she turned out as a thin Nana!
In the grey and misty morning the birds were again sitting in the tree waiting for their food:
I met Mrs Blackbird on my walk:
Have a great day you all, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

I love this artist and your dancing Nanas! My sons Collège (secondary school) is named after Niki de Saint Phalle. The school opened and was given this name in 2001 when she donated lots of her work to the modern arts museum in Nice. So we have many beautiful sculptures around this area and the school, all very inspiring! I love the curves and happy feel to your dancing Nanas, just great!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful, take some photos!
DeleteAwesome Nana page, you cannot fail to love those fun figures, they realy brighten the dull days.
ReplyDeleteYvonne xx
Love the Nanas! So fun! xxx
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I totally love swimmers. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWow! I love your post Valerie. So you mentioned that these are supposed to imitate the masters. Do you mean "The Bathers"? What a neat stencil. I love you "flying Nana!(as opposed to the "Flying Nun"!)
ReplyDeleteNo, they are a tribute to Niki de Saint Phalle, a French artist who made monumental statues of huge ladies.
DeleteThe photos are fantastic! And the dancing women are fun to see :oD
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love Nana paintings! So cool and funny and positive!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF!

ReplyDeleteYour nanas are so wonderfully carefree in their poses-i love the bathing suits. The model reminds me of sculpted figures perry grayson made recently on a tv show we saw. That photo if the bright leaves against the dull sky is lovely too.
ReplyDeletedancing nanas are great! and thank you for sharing photos as well. Have a happy and creative week.
ReplyDeleteDeine dünne, hängende Nana sieht toll aus, super Idee!
ReplyDeleteIch glaube, Nana zu malen macht einfach gute Laune, oder!?
LG Ulrike

DeleteSo cute and joyful. :)
ReplyDeleteThese are such fun! xx
ReplyDeleteI actually did dance as no one was looking--i was in line for meds a few days ago--heard some music, and in my state of mine, didn't even realize I'd begun to dance a little. I don't think anyone minded at all. Your artwork is lovely.
ReplyDeleteThese are GREAT! How Fun.....
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful Love the ladies. I painted 4 ladies with wild dresses from behind for shopping a few years ago. I then made/sewed cloth (pin) dolls. We used them as pin identifiers when we traveled so we could find each other (people remembered us). You Go Girl! This is so exciting. Your doll is so fantastic and big. The pics are great, you know I love birds. Blessings, Janet PPF
