Hi Everybody!
Just a quick post, time has once again run faster than me!
This is once again for Erika's and my challenge at AJJ, poetry.
Today I have a poem from an English poet and writer, Charles Kingsley , and it is accompanied by a quick, fun face painted onto a leftover piece of patterned paper:
My fairest child, I have no song to give you;
No lark could pipe to skies so dull and grey:
No lark could pipe to skies so dull and grey:
Yet, ere we part, one lesson I can leave you
For every day.
II
Be good, sweet maid, and let who will be clever;
Do noble things, not dream them, all day long:
And so make life, death, and that vast for-ever
One grand, sweet song.
I've read some things by Kingsley. And now it's online 👍
ReplyDeleteHe was a good writer, and a social critic in his time.

I wish you a happy weekend ahead.
Here in the UK it's a three day bank holiday, and the grandchildren have a week off school because it's half term holiday ... they are going around with big smiles on their faces :)
All the best Jan

DeleteHi Val, good morning 🌄! Here it's grey and cool this morning, perhaps it will get better later. I need to do some serious cleaning today, we've got friends coming this evening. Last time an old man sat on one of the dog's squeekies and he really got a fright! Hugs from us all, Sarah
ReplyDeleteLovely art :D
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kinga, enjoy your weekend, hugs!
DeleteHi Sarah, have fun cleaning. I am having a lazy day today as I am very tired. I hope to do some painting this afternoon. Have a great weekend 💐💐💐 hugs!
ReplyDeleteThe poem is truly lovely and I like your fun face too. I think that for this poetry challenge it should be mandatory that you compose your own lines - Valerie’s Verse so to speak. It is not far to plumb the depths of your creative mind so you’ll be able to dash off a few stanzas without a moment’s hesitation. Here, I’ll give you the first verse.
ReplyDeleteMy hair is kind of spiky,
But, I’m going out with Heike,
And a coffee we will drink, you maybe sure.
We’ll laughter and giggle heartily,
As we slurp our liquid noisily,
And smirk and conjure thoughts that are impure.
Now that should get you going. I’ll look forward to the continuation. Hugs and kisses - David
Thanks David, I think it's good that you chose birds and not poetry! And we never slurp loudly. We are ladies. Well, I should be more ladylike, I suppose! Today I am just tired, and had a nice slumber this afternoon. Have a great weekend, hugs, Valerie
DeleteThat fourth line should say "We'll laugh", not "we'll laughter" - I am sure that sometimes spellcheck goes crazy.
DeleteI hate that spellcheck everyday,
DeleteIt doesn't take mistakes away,
Instead of that it makes things worse
And spoils many a lovely verse!
Your artwork on the flowered background is intriguing and interesting and I love those captivating eyes. Have a fabulous weekend and take good care.
ReplyDeleteThanks Carol!. I love trying new ideas, even though it doesn't always work out!
DeleteI like the all-knowing face to go with the wise words of the poem. Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks, she does look like she knows it all! Happy Memorial weekend!
DeleteBeautiful poem. Love the face. The Coehlo quote is so true.. and love the brownie joke. lol.

DeleteThat lady is great and I love how the background is printed paper. I haven't heard this poem before, and it is really lovely. I think, as the poem mentions let her be clever, this lady in your journal page certainly is. :) I hope you're having a wonderful weekend. hugs-ERika
