New challenge at More Mixed Media

Hi Everybody!

Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Today we are starting a new challenge at More Mixed Media Challenge Blog. Our themes are always anything mixed media goes, this time with the optional twist of using pastels. As always, you have 4 weeks to join us, and Lozzy always offers prizes and badges, so hop over and see what's going on!
I made a tag, also meant for my 'add a sentiment' challenge at Tag Tuesday
I used some designer paper with bird print for the background, just adding the sentiment and some die-cut feathers and stars. It was mounted onto some kraft paper, stitched. and then all tied up with some baker's twine

My second piece is an A3 journal page meant for Erika's challenge at AJJ, 'when it's hot'. Cool colours are then my faves as I am not a big hot-and-sunny fan. I painted the background with a mix of blue and green over gesso, and then splattered some colour on top of it. I saw an article in our local newspaper,  the Westdeutsche Zeitung about summer trends, so cut out the picture of the girl and the trends - huge sunglasses, golden milk ice cream and bandanas as Corona protection. And if you want to be really  'in'  you need to wear a belt bag strapped round your body....I'll stick to my satchel! I drew the ice-cream cone, fussy cut the glasses and found some other 'odds and sods', as we say in my homeland, for embellishments. Some crazy stitching finished it off nicely:

My morning sunshine:

An afternoon walk through the fields behind the house:

The teasels are bigger than me:

Lovely skies:

Have a great day, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

  1. I love the mask and the ice cream cone. The horse picture is a great shot too. I also dig those sunglasses. Super fun. I like the skies, so peaceful and that shot right above the skies looks like it could be made into a puzzle. Well done. Hugs!

  2. The glasses remind me of what people used to wear in the 70's Pamela!! I am told things go in cycles and I guess we see that as we get older. Great art work and as always wonderful walk photos. Y9ur sky is very atmospheric.

    Lieben Gruss Elke

  9. Good morning Val! It's windy here today, probably the same at your place. Love the tag, so pretty, and that fun and very clever collage, great colours, too. Wonderful photos, as always. The chaos day went better than expected. Mum is now back in the care home, Leah and her kids have gone home, so I jut have my brood to care for today, wonderful! Have a great one, hugs, Sarah

  10. I am very happy to see the use of a hummingbird in your artwork, followed by the incorporation of the Great Patriotic Bird bedecked in red, white and blue, the colours of the flag of many great nations, used by one at present to stir up division, militarism and hatred unfortunately. You will know which nation I am referring to, the face of its "leader" (there's a joke) looks less attractive than the view of the hind ends of the horses above, with their tails much better than his hair. Your sky shots are very dramatic, Valerie. Well done with those. Enjoy what's left of your weekend. We are making progress with our photo-editing software, slow though it is at times. You Tube videos help. Big hugs from across the miles from Miriam and me.

    1. Hi David, glad you are making progress with our photo editing software, I know it's a lot of work. I can't use my Photoshop anymore because it causes my laptop to have a nervous breakdown and go on strike....a new one would be good, but that's not possible just now. Good joke about that person being a 'leader' - liar, bad loser, deceiver, wannabe dictator, rat-arse (sorry!) (Actually not sorry!) (and rats are very clever animals) and many other bad words to come to mind. I'm having a lazy day at home today, haven't felt so good these past days and need a bit of a rest with lots of feet-up time and good books. Hugs to you both!

  13. Your tag is gorgeous Valerie. It has such a delicacy to it which is beautiful. And who doesn’t love a hummingbird? And I am with you preferring cool colors. You page is fantastic though. Love those glasses and the ice cream. The mask is a nice touch too. Perfect for your walks I would think as you always share such wonderful walk photos. Thanks for joining in at AJJ again. It is much appreciated. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Hugs Erika

  16. Sweet tag and so serendipity. While I was admiring the hummingbird on your tag, Himself was yelling the hummingbird was visiting the flowers on his peas. Fun Summer trends. I wonder if the fashion designers will now start offering matching masks for outfits. As always I enjoy your walks and the sky photos. Take care and have a good day.

  21. Your tag has reminded me that I have my sewing machine out - it used to belong to my mother so I would say it is over 50 years old but still as good at sewing as ever it was. It might not do any fancy stitches but I am going to put some sewing on something in a short time. Thanks for reminding me. Love what you have done and that daisy at the base is beautiful. I like the bakers' twine you have used, it really works so well with the feather and the lovely paper.
Green does not always suggest hot to me but this one does. You have certainly chosen the right shade and with that touch of blue it works perfectly for Erika's theme. I love all the things you have used that reminds me of a much nicer day in summer than the one we have here, although I have just had a cone and enjoyed it. Your girl certainly is enjoying the arm day as she looks through her sunglasses at all the things that surround her. Great page!
Thanks for the walk around the area you live in. The fields certainly have lots of interesting things to see and those teasels are amazing.
    Hugs, Neet xx

    1. Thanks Neet. Hang onto that old machine, they sew much better than new ones. My modern machine does fancy stitches but is totally temperamental and very trying! We have had stormy weather over the weekend, but I enjoyed watching the clouds. Glad you liked the tag, it was quick and easy to make. The vess1els grow to good three yards high. I always pick dried ones in winter and spray them gold and silver. Have a great, new week, hugs!

  26. Lovely to see your photos, we are back to wind and rain these past few days.
Love the fantastic journal page and all the must have items you added so we could enjoy the sun, those sun glasses looked huge and don't look to me like they would be comfortable to wear I think they would be sliding off my nose.
Thank you for linking to Erika's AJJ theme.
Your tag looks beautiful as well.
    Stay safe.

  31. Beautiful layered tag Valerie and words we all should take note of. I agree about the cooler weather you've shown us a vision of just what hot summer days could be like with the addition of the mask, I think i'll stick to eating my icecream indoors for the time being although the sound of the golden cup is enticing.
Your picture of the Bee upon you rich red flowers in the pot is a stunner what a lovely morning greeting.. Hugs Tracey xx
