Hi Everybody!
Hope your weekend has got off to a great start. We've got a bit of
sunshine today, although it's rather chill, so that's something.
Today I am sharing an A4 a mixed media piece using vintage
music paper sewn onto canvas. I dyed the paper and the canvas
with my home-made vintage brown ink, and kept it to
a sepia /neutrals colour scheme. The lovely quote is from
Picasso. I am linking to Yvonne's 'colour in my world' theme
Here are the last photos taken in Duisburg at the sandcastle.
I will be visiting again on Tuesday to get a last look before
they start to demolish it at the end of next week. Here you can see
the crane which they worked from:
I love the mix of old industrial buildings:
There is a 'beach' next to the sandcastle where kids can get
inspired to make their own:
A feeling we all know -no comment necessary!
An old turbine house:
The souvenir shop is in the old fuse room:
Have a great weekend, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!
WOW! Your photos of the amazing sandcastle are absolutely amazing, Valerie! Thank you for always sharing your gorgeous photography with all of us. And WOW again! I absolutely love the beautiful work of art your created today. Your home-made vintage brown ink made the paper and canvas look gorgeous. I love the sentiment, too. What a spectacular piece you made for this challenge! HUGS to you, my friend - have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou sure brighten up one's day. Even a photo of the loo's....awesome. I am really fascinated by the sandcastles. Are they 'man' made? How long do these stay erect? I just love them...
ReplyDeleteYour strong featured face on the canvas page is awesome 'blown' up on my large screen, it's fabulous.xxx [aNNie]
Another beautiful mixed media piece! How sad knowing that the sand castle has to come down. Such is sand. That is cute that there is a place for the kids to build their own castles. A fun family day all around! I love those bathroom signs. Very witty. :)
ReplyDeleteA beautiful Mixed Media piece and great photos! Thank you for another fab entry linked to AJJ - hope blogger will not delete my comment again.
ReplyDeleteneutrals colour scheme is great I do love monocomatic. great sandcastles its a pitty they demolish them
ReplyDeleteWonderful page, love the monochromatic colour scheme, makes it really vintage. Great photos, that sandcastle is fantastic, sorry I wasn't allowed to go and see it! Have a nice weekend, hugs, Sarah
ReplyDeleteYour art for AJJ was fabulous. I simply adored how you added the musical piece to tie in with the sheet music. Great attention to detail.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how long it must have taken to make that incredible sand castle, only to have it removed next week. I could see where the destruction had occurred, though. I was just in awe of the entire piece.
I loved the rusty buildings and the beauty of the rust. One thing that got me was the turbines were so colorful against the rust and decaying building. Talk about incongruent! I do love the rust, though. It is so beautiful, as are the old machines. That is my kind of place to visit.
LOVE the signs on the bathrooms! And your piece is lovely -- loads of texture. That castle -- so glad you showed more photos and also its context in the landscape. I hope every child was inspired (though to have it come down... how sad.) Love your new banner too!
ReplyDeleteA stunning page, I do love this colour combination, your home made inks are fantastic. Good music to listen to while crafting is always a great idea as well as for relaxing to during the day.
ReplyDeleteI love how you added the layers with your sewing, its a super quote as well.
More wonderful photos, it was a good idea to have an area for the children to play in the sand beside the sandcastle.
Have a good Saturday.
Yvonne xx
Lieben Gruss Elke
Very true I'm the quote and your design is beautifully done. That sandcastle is extraordinary and extreme! Wowzers! Hugz.
ReplyDeleteYour page is lovely. The sepia tones are beautiful and the sentimet is perfect. I still can't get over the sand castle. Every time I look at it, I see something new. Too bad it has to come down. Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteSehr schöne Journalseite mit einem tollen Charakterkopf. So Ton in Ton braun gefällt mir sehr. Wem gehört der Kopf? Die Fotos sind super gelungen, klasse zu sehen wie die Sandstadt wächst.
ReplyDeleteLiebe Grüße und Happy Sunday.
Hugs
Sabine
Wonderful piece. And the words....so true.
ReplyDeleteI hate that they're not going to stabilize and save the sandcastle:(
Hope your weekend is filled with wonder.
Hugs,
There will be a new one next year!
DeleteBeautiful mixed media piece. Sad to have that fantastic sandcastle torn down. Fun washroom sign!

A wonderful page Valerie with a terrific quote.
ReplyDeleteThe mix of the old relics and the new sandcastle make for very good photographs but my favourite is the way they have left some sand for everyone to play in. It is all so well thought through. Thank you for sharing this happy adventure
Love Chrissie xx
A fabulous piece of artwork Valerie. Wonderful pictures - I've seen 'sand artwork' before but nothing on this scale - stunning.
ReplyDeleteAvril xx
Fantastic vintage music piece. I love the dye effect! Andthat sand castle still amazes me. The industrial buildings are interesting too. Do you think they'll do another sand castle next year? Hugs-Erika

Wonderful music collage page with a great quote too. I love those sandcastles.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cool place to visit,I just love that they reuse these buildings, instead of letting them rot- such cool architecture here!
ReplyDeleteSorry they have to demolish the sand art "( Making room for the next one!
Valerie,
Your page is beautiful, so vintage looking , it reminded me of a movie I watched where the men in white wigs stood around the piano drinking -wish I could remember the name! I'll tell you when I do! Anyway, Gorgeous page!
hugs,Jackie
Music....better than Pledge:)
ReplyDeleteHope your weekend was glorious and your coming week even better.
Hugs,
HI-ya. I just wandered over after reading your comment on the "Low Carb Diabetic" blog. It's nice to meet ya.
ReplyDeleteYour artwork is fabulous. It doesn't just appeal visually, but it's intellectually pleasing, as well. (You could say it... struck a chord with me. :)
It's amazing the kind of sandcastles (and other sand art projects) people can create. Me? I use a bucket and paper cups and still make the same lousy "castles" for our grandchildren that I made as a child.
Count me in as your newest groupie.
A beautiful, inspiring page, and great photos Valerie!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful week!
Alison xx
I love your collage - and the quote which I have seen before but didn't know who said it!It really was some castle - sad that it indicates the end of Summer with it's destruction! Hugs, Chrisx
ReplyDeleteTruly beautiful art piece my friend! Gorgeous! I love these sandcastles!! Truly fascinating! Truly beautiful!! Cool place where it was built! I laughed at the bathrooms! LOL! Big Hugs!
ReplyDelete(Valerie, sorry to bother you, but I need your address again for the giveaway. I'm bad at keeping addresses!)
