More of the Sandcastle

Hi Everybody!
Another week is flying by really quickly and it's Friday
already, which means it's time for Paint Party Friday.
I am also linking to Yvonne's 'colour in my world' theme
Today I am sharing an A3 mixed media piece made 2 weeks
back, using another of my doll faces - I made 3 altogether,
so there's still  another one to come. This time I gave her sewed arms
and legs, made from pieces cut from an old blouse, and clothes
made from scraps. The background was painted, collaged, stamped
 and stenciled.
The quote is from Baz Luhrmann:

She started out like this:

And the rest was sewed on:

Here are some detail shots from the giant sandcastle - if you missed
yesterday's post you can read all about it here
The damage you can see at some spots was caused by some
rowdies who broke into the site at night and tried to climb up
the castle. The sand sometimes seems to be different colours, which
was caused by the sun shining or hiding behind clouds:

By the way, my Tuesday postcards this week were won by Eileen
and Lisa. Eileen, please contact me with your snail-mail addy!

I will show the rest of the photos tomorrow!
Have a great day, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

  1. Hi Val, you were up early today, sorry if you couldn't sleep. Will ring you later. LOVE your newest doll, and little R wants it, I think I'll have to dress her in pink today. Wonderful photos again, I hope I will be able to get to see the sandcastle before it gets demolished. Have a great da, and take things easy. Hugs, Sarah

  4. I love her hair and pink skirt best, but then my favorite color is fuchsia! Those sandcastles are amazing. We do that in Victoria's beaches every year too. Gorgeous and astonishing. Visiting from PPF, have a great weekend!

  5. Your art doll's face is fabulous. She is simply adorable, and I was really impressed with how you dressed her. That was some feat, in my opinion.

Too bad those ruffians didn't realize how sand will shift and be destroyed from that senseless climbing. So glad only a small amount of the sandcastle was damaged. As always, great photos.

  9. The page is out of this world-just love the face and the idea of making the body in sewing is amazing. It is a new dimension and such a wonderful one.

How could anyone want spoil the Sandcastle in any way at all. Your photographs of it are fantastic and it is even better to see the close-ups that the video I saw online. The tortoise eggs and one little chap emerging brought a tear to my eye.

  10. I love beautiful your art doll Valerie, yes I think we were having similar thoughts for today.
Its an awesome page, I love how you added her arms and legs and of course it goes without saying that her dress and handbag look fabulous.
I am so happy that you are enjoying the AJJ theme.
It is such a shame that folk cannot respect other peoples work and have to cause damage. The close up photos of the sandcastle are great, so much detail and so much to see.

  11. Your art doll is lovely - very creative. That giant sandcastle is super cool. I've seen a few guys sculpting dogs out of sand. They look really good but not nearly as spectacular as that castle.

Wow, the sandcastle is breathtaking and the design is so intricate - I love it! I've been admiring the sandcastle for a while now ...lol ... and there is so much stunning detail 😉. 15. That is a fabulous quote and I love seeing how you created the page. That sandcastle is just stunning. There's an annual sandcastle contest at a beach near Boston, and they had some great designs, but nothing as amazing as "your" sandcastle.
