T stands for Two new challenges

Hi Everybody!

Hope you all had a great weekend.
There's a lot going on here just now, so I'd better get started!
On the 5th of each month we start a new challenge at
Our challenges are always anything mixed media goes, this time with optional black. I made an A3 piece using acrylic paints and chalks, and a few strips of washi tape. I love the blackboard washi tape I found, it's great for putting a sentiment on. The background was painted with acrylics and stamped into to give a pattern, which is then highlighted by the coloured chalk rubbed into it. I finished it off with a couple of rows of crazy sewing. The quote is from Albert Einstein:

At Tag Tuesday we are beginning a new challenge and our lovely Wendy is  hosting. She has chosen 'Poppies' as her theme, as this year is the centenary of the end of WWI. The quote is part of the famous poem written by John McCrae:

It's also time for Elizabeth's T stands for Tuesday, so here a warm welcome to all of the wonderful ladies of the T Gang. My contribution is a slice of raspberry cake and coffee, recently shared at my friend N's place:

Two weeks back N and I went on the tram to the botanical garden at the University of Düsseldorf - I showed some of the pics already. Here are some more, taken in the cottage garden and in the vegetable garden:

These mini apples were sweet and crisp, and not much bigger than cherries:

At the weekend G and I visited another beautiful park in a neighbouring town, where we were surprised to see so many flowers still blooming in November. I will show the pics in another post.

Have a great day, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

  1. The pastels look great on the black and I do love the poppies. Flanders Field is a favorite of mine. And what fabulous flowers. Nice to see the color when here we are seeing lots of gray skies and rain!

  17. What a great find on that washi tape. It goes perfectly with the chalkboard journal entry. I really like it. Of course, the poppies may be my favorite today, because they are so beautiful and remind us of what was.

I want to visit you and N for raspberry cake and coffee. It looks delicious and I want coffee as much as the cake! It's perfect for T this Tuesday, Valerie.

I was in awe of the veggies and flowers. Somehow, those pumpkins or whatever they were look like what I expected in the pumpkin patch I visited. Thanks for sharing these photos, your incredible art, and your cake and coffee with us for T this Tuesday.

  24. What a great post Valerie. I just love your latest art journal page with the chalk drawings. They really look like sidewalk art-adult side walk art that is. I love how you did that. And nice tag too. Poppies are a great choice for November for sure. And I will take a piece of cake now with my tea. It is dark and wet here and I have been home just for a bit and boy would that taste good now. And lastly, I really enjoyed more views of the botanical gardens. Around here we have brown leaves! Great new header and hope it was a fantastic T day. Hugs-Erika

  29. It really tickled me that your first peace is about creativity, since that's what I blogged about today. AND to include Einstein's quote! He's one of this nerd's heroes. :) YOU, my dear, exemplify creativity. And you DO pass it on, oh so beautifully.

  30. Your journal page is very striking, Valerie. I love that Einstein quote.

Perfect choice of words for the pretty poppy tag. At first I thought the tag looked too bright and cheerful. Then I realized that was the point of the poem. Food for thought.

    Yummy looking strawberry cake.

And finally more gorgeous nature photos. This post was a real treat for the eyes.

    Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen
