Playing with colours

Hi everybody!
The week is racing by, and I have had a busy week doing this and that and not really getting anything finished! I made some backgrounds using lots of colours, that was fun, and I hope that I will get round to finishing them next week. I see a lot of figures lurking in the first one....

What will this one be? I had fun heating and bubbling the colours to give some texture.

And I think this will be an underwater world:

This one is more or less finished, I painted another 2 figures like those I did last week inspired by Thierry Noir. But I like the background best, once again heated and bubbled to give texture.

I am linking to Paint Party Friday, hosted as always by Eva and kristin, and to AJJ, hosted by the sweet Susi, 'Happiness', as these strange figures make me happy.

And here are some photos from my walk this morning.

Walking through the fields:

I loved this view looking over the roof of the old Langer Hof at Kalkum to the church spire:

And of course, I had to visit my ducks and the Schloss where they live:

And on my way home through the park I saw a crane sitting on the roof of one of the neighbouring houses, not a very frequent sight. I watched it for a few minutes till it spread its wings and flew away towards the Rhine.

Have a great day, take care, and thanks a lot for coming by!

  4. I am amazed that you find time to make anything Valerie as the scenery you have around you is so wonderful--I think I would be out there all day long--thank you for sharing your wonderful photographs.

Love the idea of yours to make backgrounds for later and one day I will get around to doing just that. The second one I see as a fantasy planet with wonderful vegetation and amazing flowers-wonder what you will make with it--can't wait to see

    Love Chrissie x

  6. Loving your backgrounds Valerie, and the one you finished looks so fun! Lots of potential in all of the other ones, number two suggested a beautiful dreamy landscape to me with a lake in the middle. Photos like always are stunning! I am actually in Germany right now (Spreewald) but here sadly the skies are grey, though we did have some lovely sunshine a few days ago

    1. You should have come here ( although the skies are grey today, too!) Rhineland is much nicer than Spreewald! (Don't tell anyone I said that!)

    Herrliche Rheinland Impressionen wieder ...
    DANKE liebe Valerie!

    Knuddel!

  9. Beautiful backgrounds! In fact, I like the second one just as it is! We have a few cranes that live around our lake; they are beautiful majestic birds with a surprisingly big wingspan for their skinny bodies.

  18. Gorgeous backgrounds, awesome colours and again your photos are great. Most of our snow has melted, (still some in the shaded areas) and it's warm & sunny! It seems that spring will arrive after all. Take care, Shirleyx

  19. Beautiful backgrounds Valerie - I definitely see a figure walking into view on the first background and the third one for sure is underwater. Now the second one might be the most interesting to work with. Land, water and sky? At any rate, painting some backgrounds and having a good play sounds like a wonderful idea. You just have to know what you are doing so don't make mud.
Would you look at that Crane -- he might be lost and has gone to higher ground to see what is what.
Hope your day was a good one - these days seem to fly by faster than I would like!

  24. Valerie, your backgrounds are vibrant and wonderful. I see figures in the first one too. I'm interested to see if they are the same as you see. The second one is a western US scene of mesas, mountains and a lake in the foreground. And yes, I believe the third one is an underwater scene. Beautiful beginnings.

  34. Lovely backgrounds and lovely pics. I was interested to see the one of the crane on the roof top because I have seen the same sight on roof tops here too, although I wasn't sure if it was a crane or a heron. Like you say it is an unusual sight to see.

  46. I love those backgrounds - I have been playing more with different colors lately as well. Love those new very fluid Golden acrylics - like watercolor only a bit more vibrant than the watercolors I've used. I can see all of those backgrounds becoming fabulous paintings - and also very different from each other. Even though I live in the southern east coast of the US - and we have lots of cranes, egrets, ospreys, etc I never tire of seeing these beautiful birds - wonderful photos.

  47. What a wonderful variety! The first one has a lovely flow to it - I see figures, too! Love the underwater one, too - and the photos are amazing! I have never seen a crane on a roof top! CRAZY!! Happy PPF!
