Hi you all, hope you are having a good week. My painting today is for the Summer of Colour - hosted by the sweet Kristin and for Paint Party Friday, hosted by Eva and Kristin. The colours for SOC this week are citron green and turquoise, and I made an African landscape with unusual colours.
I painted the background with thinned down acrylics to make the colours more transparent, sprayed with some watered down green, and then stamped and stenciled with DI peeled paint. I went round the outlines of my African scene with a felt tip pen, and used the same colour for the text, although it looks blue here, as the pens are rather transparent and show the colours underneath. The quote is from Nelson Mandela.
This journal spread was made over pages which had been used to take the remainder of my colours from last week, livened up with half a cup of coffee (ooooops!) and a bit of yellow. I had no theme or challenge in mind, and just let it run. I stamped, stenciled, collaged, doodled and had fun; this is the result:
This was fun to make, and thanks to Eva, Kristin and Kristin for organising these events.
Have a good week you all, take care, and thanks for coming by!
Love the colors of your pages, they are so vibrant. Your little monkeys hanging around made me laugh, they are so cute!
ReplyDeletexx
Yeah, they remind me somehow of the kids I used to teach - in a positive sense!
DeleteWow, what a lot of wonderful colour, shapes and excitement! The Africa pages are wonderful, and your journal spread is so vibrant with colour and energy and fun! Hugs, Sarah

ReplyDeleteWOW Valerie, these are two very wonderful spreads. The colours, the layouts, the words - FABulous!! :0)) Mo

ReplyDeleteFantastic colours and designs Valerie and wonderful sentiment as well.
ReplyDeleteLove Chrissie xx
Beautiful page to put the beautiful quote on, the colors are gorgeous! Love your playful 70's inspired monkeys hangin around too! ~Diane
ReplyDeleteHerrlich, Valerie!
DeleteGreat painted background! You make me want to pull out my paints again! Love both and that quote is so heartfelt! Enjoy the evening! Hugs!

ReplyDeletexxx Hazel.
These paintings are so different in atmosphere. The African one is very moving and you have made a lovely artwork to give your message. The second one is a lot of fun, you must have enjoyed making it, I think. And a surprise with your telephone box background today!
ReplyDeleteBoth great, however I do favour the african one - I think because of Nelson Mandela. Have a great day, Valerie. Hugs, Donna
ReplyDeleteHmm, I think I favour the monkey one, perhaps because I am often up to monkey business!
DeleteBeautiful Africa scene - and what a perfect setting for that quote. There is so much subtlety in your work. And so fun, the second one! Love all the movement and the collaged picture is perfect! Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteValerie, although your art is always exemplary, I think your Africa piece is one of the best pieces you've shown here on PPF. The colors with the stamps - simply gorgeous! And the quote is one all of us have in our hearts, I think.
