Inspired by, Divas and too much water.

Hi Everybody!

Another cold and blustery day here, and the water in the Rhine is still rising!
Hope things soon get back to normal.

My inspiration for today's piece at Art Journal Journey is again from Mondrian. I looked at some of his works which are not so bright and colourful as those in primary colours, and tried to make something similar. After giving my paper (A3) a coat of Gesso, I used a stencil from CWS to draw the shapes, which I coloured in using felt pens. I thought this would be quick and easy, but drawing all those tiny squares was not something for someone with so little patience! Perhaps I should have used a smaller page this time! I wrote 2 quotes of Mondrian around the edges.

At Tag Tuesday our theme this week is Diva. I'm not quite sure that this lady is a diva, but she seems to be going in the right direction. I used corrugated card for the background, painted with gesso and edged with molten Utee gold. The image is from a Gecko Galz collage sheet. I used some fabric, flowers and fibres as embellishments. I used the white roses because my Great Auntie Fanny once told me that Divas were ladies who wore lovely dresses and always go bouquets of white roses....

The water in the Rhine is getting higher and higher, and lots of parts of the shore and meadows have been flooded.

The geese and ducks are enjoying their new playgrounds

The trees have all got wet feet

The jetty is almost on a level with the towpath, so I'm hoping the waters will start receding.

Have a great day you all, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

  2. yet another fantastic post Val. I love your newest creation. In particular I love the way it looks at the angle in your second photo down. :) That would make a great piece of wall art :)

  5. The Rhine looks sad again today Valerie hope the weather improves soon We are back to very cold again today but still no snow thank goodness.

I had to laugh as you used the very words I had in mind for my art that I did yesterday 'I thought this would be quick and easy,' Will post it later and you will see what I mean. The piece you did is wonderful but must have made you cross eyed with all the colours and shapes.

Love the very beautiful tag and I sure your Great Aunt Fanny was right--well I hope she was I love the idea.

    Have a wonderful day

    Love Chrissie

  10. You do have a lot of patience to color all those squares! I would spend more time deciding which color to place than in the actual coloring, LOL! Hope the water recedes soon before it starts causing problems.

  11. That's a lot of water, I quite like when we get excess weather although of course don't want any bad damage to property or people or animals or birds.
I like your coloured squares/rectangles but can see that it might have become a bit tedious after a time, still it's a good result. And I love your Diva with all her accessories and the purple striped corrugated cardboard, you do have interesting bits flying past your table. She looks a bit frightened of that giant white plant.

  13. The minute I saw your journal page I thought "Gracious! This must have taken a lot of time to create
and driven your eyes half crazy!" I decided to call your wonderful Diva " A Diva In Her Dressing Room".
Those trees not only have their feet wet but their knees too!

  16. Love your drawing/colored shapes! And your Diva is beautiful, the white roses were a great add thanks to Aunt Fanny! Hope the waters recede soon. Since I love and follow your artwork and your photos, I can tell how different the landscape is looking. You guys could send us some water. We are at 0% of normal this month already...not a good start as the rain and snowpack gets us through the summer. Hugs!

  19. I'm sure all of those little shapes took forever! I'm not sure I would have gotten them done :) the Diva is great. ♥ Your rive is certainly on the rise and getting close to the scary stage. The ducks and geese do seem to be very happy with it all. :)
