Hi Everybody!
Another week is flying by, I wish I could run fast enough to catch up with it.
We had cooler weather today - so nice, and there was a great breeze blowing along the Rhine, so I cycled all the way to the harbour in Düsseldorf, it's about 20 miles there and back, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I had lots of breaks to take photos and have a sit on a bench, too. Tomorrow will be good weather again - I hope, and I will try to do another trip. The weekend should be very hot and stormy again, so I want to use the good days. I still can't get my thumb round the handlebar, but manage to hold on well without it.
Today I made a quick journal page. I have been busy with other things this week, but can't show them till August begins. I painted the background with blue and green metallic paints over gesso, and stamped into it while it was still wet with a dry crackle stamp. This lifts of some of the colour, and gives a textured, white crackle effect. You can then use the stamp to transfer the blue crackle to another sheet of paper, which gives another background....As I used various colours, it seems to change colours, depending on the angle of the light. I used 2 stencils (Stencilry) which I daubed with gesso using a kitchen sponge, which again gives a nice textured look. This was quick and fun to make.
I am linking to Moo Mania and More, texture, and to Paint Party Friday
I saw other horses today, but they were also busy grazing....
I watched the hay bales being stacked and stored:
A plane on it's way to the nearby airport:
The post office tower of Düsseldorf in the distance:
The Esprit Arena for concerts and sporting events is just across the road from the Rhine:
The Trade Fair is next door:
And here another bridge and the skyline of Düsseldorf are coming into view:
Hope you enjoyed your tour today, I will keep the other photos for another day!
Have a great day, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!
Love your dreamy journal page, Valerie! The touch of stamped crackle is so nice and love the colors. Be careful with your thumb!!! Again we are having very high temperatures and I don't like that! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI believe you, wish I could send you some of the rain, and the cool, fresh breeze we had today!
DeleteThe crackle is very effective with the quote! Wow, that is a long way to cycle--good for you! I hope your thumb continues to improve. Our weather is beautiful right now.
ReplyDeleteLove your journal page, the colours are very harmonious, and the texture looks good, too. Great photos, too. I remember the trade fair well, but the arena looks different? Hugs, Sarah
ReplyDeleteEine wunderschöne Journalseite mit ganz tollen Effekten. Herrliche Farbkombi. Bei uns hat es die ganze letzte Nacht bis mittags komplett geregnet. Anschließend kam die hohe Luftfeuchtigkeit. Das ist nicht wirklich mein Wetter .... Ich mag es lieber trocken und warm ;)
ReplyDeleteA beautiful page Valerie, the crackles look fab. I hope you have a well padded bicycle seat, 20 miles is a fair distance! Xx
ReplyDeleteEine mega klasse Seite hast du da wieder kreiert! Liebe Grüße, Dagmar

Fantastic piece Valerie. So good for you to bike 20 miles. It would take me a while to get to that distance. Hubby does it all the time. Nice views you have in every direction. xox
ReplyDeleteLove the journal page Valerie it has such rich colours.
ReplyDeleteMy I am so impressed with all the cycling you are fitting in must be great to be able to go so far and see all that you do. I did got to Dusseldorf over 25 years ago but only the airport unfortunately.

Eine großartige Seite ist das wieder und Deine Fotos sind auch soooo klasse, Valerie
ReplyDeleteDanke für's Mitmachen bei MOO-MANIA & MORE
Thank you for taking us on a trip. I love the area you live. You make it so inviting you should be a spokes person for the area. LOL
ReplyDeleteLovely art as well.

Valerie, the crackle effect is wonderful on your new piece of art. I need to try that myself. A 20-mile bike ride is L O N G and my rear would be pretty tired by the time I returned home. Good for you and also for the new photos of an entirely different area. I enjoyed them so much.
ReplyDeleteYes, when I rolled out of bed this morning my rear was definitely hurting!
