New challenge at Art Journal Journey - Seeing red

Hi Everybody!

Today we are starting a new challenge at Art journal Journey, and our lovely Erika, AKA BioArtGirl is our host, and has chosen
Seeing Red
as her theme.
Erika is a talented and keen art journaler  and is looking forward to seeing how we all interpret her challenge.  The art doesn't have too be completely red, but it should be enough to support the theme. The challenge runs for the whole month, so you have plenty of time to join us.For more about the rules etc please see the AJJ Blog.

My journal page is a red, black and white hybrid piece:

And some red pictures:

And a couple of thinkies:

Have a great day, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

  1. I like your take on Erika's theme. It is a subtle, but effective use of the color red. This is a brilliant first entry and I am very impressed with your piece, Valerie. Of course, I also like your red images, too. Cute thinkies, especially the twins.

  6. You have risen to the challenge of red in fine style, Valerie. The redness of the berries makes me salivate almost, but it will be a while before fruit will be on the briar. In the meantime there is of course the Northern Cardinal in my backyard, clad in robes of brilliant scarlet. Another month and he will be trilling from the treetops as he tries to court the ladies. The twins above are so much of what we need in this world. Oh for such innocence. I am glad you found that one to share with us. Yesterday we had lunch with friends at a Serbian restaurant, and the food was delicious. I was still full at dinner time so I just had some frozen cherries and Greek yogurt. Miriam had toast. My friend, Andrew, is originally from Poland and he always brings a book for me to borrow. It is amazing how he grasps the subtleties of theme and plot in English. His choices are always impeccable and interesting. It's great to be stimulated by friends like that. Hugs and kisses - David

    1. Yes, it's good to have good friends, and you are definktely on my list of good friends, in spite of the distance! Red is a great signal colour, at the moment I am wearing red sneakers, and people here keep asking me if I'm aspiring to be the pope. Well, no! The East European food is always very good, I can understand you enjoying it. Those little twins are really touching, we could all be more like that! Today we had a tropical fruit salad for dessert, it was really good. Have a great day, hugs xxxxx

    2. I wish you could become Pope! The first woman as Pope would be quite the thing wouldn't it? I doubt that it will happen any time soon!

    3. Probably not, but I've got the shoes already!

  7. This is a great take on red Valerie. I love how you used the train image on the black and red checkerboard. It really makes the red pop. And your red photos are great too. That strawberry dessert is making me hungry this morning...I hope you're having a great week and happy new month too. Hugs-Erika

  16. Glorious reds, Valerie! And I love your hybrid piece. I've always enjoyed trains, and I am sad that they and their tracks have vanished in so many places. I especially loved your twin thinkie. Hate is learned! Have a great day!

  18. What a fabulous hybrid piece this is Valerie. I love the red train against the black and white checkered background, it really pops out. Great idea!
I also love the red pictures you show us especially the fish, I could live with that on my wall.
Of course the thinkies are great too - especially the girls; but I must say the two kittens made me chortle. I think that is my other half closing his eyes with me prattling on.
Hope today finds you feeling a bit better and each day sees you stronger.
    Hugs, Neet xx

  23. Hi Valerie! First of all, thanks so very much for your wonderful visit to my blog! Secondly, your hybrid piece is wonderful. I love trains as they remind me of my dad, who worked on them at Bethlehem Steel!!! What a beautiful interpretation of Erika's theme. And finally, all of your red photos are gorgeous. And I especially like the first "thinkie" - yes, we should all look at the world like a child. Thanks again for everything! Hope you are feeling better every day. Hugs, Sharon
