The square on the hypotenuse

Hi Everybody!

Hope you are all holding up well in your solitary confinement and doing things to help pass the time. I still do my running and dancing at home, and have been averaging about 14000 steps each day. On top of that I use my cross trainer every day, and managed 50 kilometers last week. And I read a lot, and spend a lot of time at my computer or in my arty kitchen.

Today I have a hybrid piece to share with  a classical example of geometry that we all learnt at school. The quote is, of course, from the one and only Pythagoras. I remember chanting it at school, we had to repeat it till we had it in our heads, and I have never forgotten it:

And here as an unforgettable song:

I am also linking to Paint Party Friday

And I have some more photos from geometrical forms in architecture and nature:

Have a great day, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

2nd on the 2nd and geometric shapes

Hi Everybody!

I think this whole business with 'Corrina' is changing me.... I have started doing housew**k every day! I wash up after every meal,  I've been tidying my cupboards and  I've dusted the furniture. I even cleaned the balcony. But the thing that worries me the most, is that I've started counting the sheets of toilet paper - help! I may be needing treatment when this whole scare is over!

For Art Journal journey I have a very simple, hybrid piece today. The face (Sketchy  faces from Mischief circus) was placed on a sheet of stenciled paper and I added the quote.I put it all together in Serif.  Super quick and easy, but still effective. And I am also linking to Rain's Thursday Art Date, stencil art:

And for Elizabeth's 2nd on the 2nd, I have found some old pieces which also have geometric patterns to keep the theme:

I love the cup-stencils:

Another stencil-and-doodle piece:

And some photos showing geometry and symmetry in nature:

Have a great day, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

Midweek post -Geometric shapes

Hi Everybody!

Today a new challenge is starting at Art Journal Journey, and this time I am hosting. Thanks to Elizabeth and her team for the invitation!  I have chosen geometric shapes as my theme, and hope to see lots of you joining in. You can use any geometric shapes in your work, and of course, you can include other things as well. I always loved geometry at school, and often used to draw and doodle shapes in my exercise book, which the teacher never really appreciated....Your work can be 'real', hybrid or digital. Here I have used the shapes in the background. I started making these pages as we had dismal, grey weather with permanent rain and floods, and needed bright colours, and you will see this colour combination in quite a lot of my pieces this month.
The background was gessoed and then textured with a crackle stamp. Then I brayered red and yellow acrylics over it. The flower-of-life mandala in the background was stenciled using distress oxide ink. The circles were 'stamped' with  round sponges dipped into acrylic paint. I love the texture created by the larger sponge! The dancers and sentiment were added with a Stencil Girl stencil using Archival black. The other lines and dots were doodled. I used some washi tape and sewing as embellishments:

Today I am sharing photos of the ancient Abbey Church (12th century) at Knechtsteden, with many wonderful examples of the use of geometric shapes and forms in architecture:
