I am the dream....

Hi Everybody!

It's weekend, so have a good one. Hope those stuck in the snow are keeping warm and safe, and that the weather gets better for

you very soon.

Today I have another piece for Art Journal Journey, Birds, beasts and humans to share. We already have over 150 entries, and the challenge runs for another week. You can see all the wonderful entries by clicking on the link in my sidebar. I used one of my ready made backgrounds - when I have time and/or colour left over, I make BGs, it's always good to have a supply. I did some background stenciling using various stencils, bought and home made, and black soot DI. The flowers were stamped direct from some Memento Dewdrop stamp pads, and then highlighted with white dots, as was the house stencil along the bottom edge. This was quick and fun to make.

I have been watching some men working on the roof of one of the ancient houses near the Church, bit by bit they are putting in new wooden beams instead of the rather decayed old ones. It's interesting to see how well they work as a team.

The falcon doesn't come onto the balcony, but enjoys picking crusts of bread from the garden

The jay came rather late, and was rather disappointed that the food had already been eaten, so had to be content with picking at the fat balls

Van Gogh with bandaged ear

Hi Everybody!

Another week has flown by - where does the time go?

The older I get, the faster the hands of the clock seem to turn, 

or is it just that I need longer to do things?

For Art Journal Journey, birds, beasts and humans,  and Paint Party Friday I made anotherA3 page in Van Gogh style. I painted the background in acrylics in red and orange. I drew Van Gogh onto a separate sheet, and painted him first with water colours and then pastel chalks. After cutting and gluing I wrote the details along the edge and a quote of Van Gogh's underneath. I drew the smoke from the pipe with pastel chalk.

This morning started off very foggy again, but in the afternoon the sun came out - rather pale and watery, but it felt good! The mist thinned, too, but it was still rather hazy.

Here the falcon was slumbering in the tree behind the garden.

The heron was standing at his usual spot and I watched him

catch a fish:

I love the way the anchor is glowing in the sun.

Horus and birds in the mist

Hi Everybody!

We had another cold and very misty day again, but I still enjoyed

my walks, especially as I saw spring flowers growing - snowdrops, daffodils,

and even a yellow crocus. It makes it easier to believe that spring will be here sooner or later!

For Art Journal Journey I am sharing another Egyptian page showing the god Horus, the son of Osiris and Ra. He is shown as a falcon or a falcon headed man, and he was the god of light and the protector of the children. I used a brushwipe page, (A3) which I sprinkled with Brushos and sprayed with water. I drew lots of hieroglyphics  down the sides of the page. Horus was drawn onto a separate sheet, painted with water colours and gel-pens, and highlighted with gold and white. I used metallic pens for the breast plate, and added mica flakes to the sun-crown and breast-plate. He is holding the Ankh, the breath of life in his talons.

I met the raven down at the shore

The heron was busy fishing again

This was the view from my window this morning

The trees disappeared into the mist

 I enjoyed walking along the shore, crunching through the shingle

And the cormorant was keeping watch on his pole again.

The feather was one of the objects I spotted along the shore. It was very large, so I'm not sure which bird it came from:

Signs of spring? I hope so

Birds, circles and humans

Hi Everybody!

Hope all of you who are snowed in in the States and Canada are

keeping warm and safe! You have really had more than

your share this time round!

For Art Journal Journey I have another piece for Birds, beasts and humans. I used a background I made recently with water colours, stenciling and distress inks. I drew the heads with my home-made stencils, and filled them using stencils from stencilry org and Dina Wakley. Then I drew lots and lots of circles in white. The quote is part of a quote from Nicholas Black Elk, a holy man of the Sioux: 

Everything the Power of the World does is done in a circle. The sky is round, and I have heard that the earth is round like a ball, and so are all the stars. The wind, in its greatest power whirls. Birds make their nest in circles, for theirs is the same religion as ours. The sun comes forth and goes down again in a circle. The moon does the same and both are round. Even the seasons form a great circle in their changing, and always come back again to where they were. The life of a man is a circle from childhood to childhood, and so it is in everything where power moves. Our tepees were round like the nests of birds, and these were always set in a circle, the nation's hoop.

The gulls enjoyed the weather, too,
