Thanks again to all who sent well wishes; I do feel better, even though it is not yet completely gone, and am hopeful that I can soon get things done again at my usual pace.

For Art Journal Journey, architecture, 49 Faces, and Kim Dellow's show your face I made another mixed media journal page in A3. I think I was under the spell of the lunar eclipse when I made it....

Yesterday, when I went to the doctor's, it had stopped raining but the water drops were glistening everywhere:

I went out for a short walk today, and it was dry. This lovely ink-cap fungus greeted me as I went out of the house:

Stone on stone

Hi Everybody!

It's weekend already - have a good one!

For Art Journal Journey I used a photo taken some years back in Acre (Akko), a coastal town in Israel dating back to about 2000 BC, and one of the oldest continuously inhabited towns in the area. It was also known as Ptolemais in the Greek and Roman period. You can walk through ancient lanes and arches, see the old fortifications, the crusader castle and many other wonders there. This street here leads to the old Hammam, or bath house. I painted around the photo, and added some more 'masonry' with  structure paste mixed with reflex beads for more texture. I added some patches of (want to be) gold leaf just for fun, as  it matches the colour of the stones. I put Mr Umbrella Man in a Safari Suit and sent him to wander through the streets.

The Khan al-Umdan. Here travellers and merchants could rest and buy and sell their wares. This was used in the film 'Not without my daughter' to film one of the scenes. In my photo a young man was pressing oranges to fresh juice.

Stone and more

Hi Everybody!

Another week is past and gone, and it's Friday already, which means it's time for Paint Party Friday, hosted as always by Eva and Kristin.

I have another journal page to share for Art Journal Journey, architecture.

I used a photo of a street near where I lived as a kid, in the middle of Jack the Ripper Land, when the houses, and especially the Church, always seemed to be so huge and sometimes threatening to me. After the war there were lots of gaps, or tall walls which had survived from bombed houses, and everything was blackened with soot, smoke and fire. 

The background was painted in grey and black, using my scratchy brush. I added some blue  and yellow patches to represent sun and sky.

And as I haven't been able to paint this week, I am re-showing a piece made some time back, where I copied one of Modigliani's portraits - it's a picture of a poet from 1915. I used ink, water colours and pastels for the face, and acrylics and pastels for the background.

Architecture can be fun

Hi Everybody!

Hope your week is going well.

For Art Journal Journey, architecture, and Moo Mania and More, patterns,

I made another A3 mixed media page. The background is a brush-wipe page, collaged with a cur out from a magazine. The graffiti artist is called Stik and the drawing is on a house in Bristol. I added my own graffiti with a marker.

I took these photos here 2 years ago, somebody just added a smile to the 'eyes' in the wall of the public toilets by the Rhine. I love how the sunlight is reflecting from the stained glass windows of the Basilica opposite. I was rather sad to see that the powers that be painted over the smile :(
