For this piece I used a print of Klimt's beautiful golden lady - Adele Bloch-Bauer. I placed her on a painted and textured A3 background and surrounded her with a mosaic of little squares cut from scrap paper and lots of gilding flakes. The Nazis stole the painting and all other valuables when the family was driven out of their home, and later the painting came into the art museum in Vienna. For many years they refused to hand the painting back to the family, until the owner took them to court, and after a 7 year legal battle they were forced to return it to Maria Altman, who was the legal heir. It now hangs in the Neue Gallery in New York:
