Hi Everybody!
Today I have a steampunk tag to share, using various elements from LaBlanche and Dezina world:
I am linking to Paint Party Friday and Simon Monday challenge, things with wheels
And I have a last tag for our 'mushrooms' theme at Tag Tuesday, using elements from Serif and me:
Last Sunday was the begin of the Carnival festivities here, and while I was out getting some spring flower shots I saw the procession of carnival die-hards from our little town coming my way and took some photos:
In Düsseldorf and Cologne there are HUGE celebrations and parades in the days before Ash Wednesday, and there is a lot of rivalry between both towns, some would call it enmity....Back in 1288 there was a battle at a place called Worringen. The troops from Düsseldorf won, and that's where it started. D'dorf was granted the right to hold a market as a reward for fighting the battle for the Duke of Berg. Today the rivalry is concentrated on who has the best carnival parade, whose beer tastes better etc. In Cologne they drink a beer called Kölsch, and the folks here call it 'Pferdepisse'. No, I won't translate it, you'll have to look it up....In Düsseldorf they drink Alt beer, and the people in Cologne have the same bad nickname for it! I drink coffee and it tastes good even in Cologne, so perhaps it's all just nonsense with the rivalry. But when I tried to buy a train-ticket to Düsseldorf from Cologne from a ticket machine, I noticed that Düsseldorf is not listed at all.... Something to think about for those who have nothing better to do or have drunk too much of the various beers. And don't tell, but if I had to drink a beer, I would choose Kölsch and not Alt....
The one with the beard reminds me of Dumbledore....

ReplyDeleteLove both the tags, Val, and the photos are great. You and I are both not carnival fans, but some people seem to like it....it's a great excuse for many for drinking pints and pints of beer though! The leader of the parade does look a bit like Dumbledore! Have a great day, hugs, Sarah
ReplyDeleteThis was a fun post. Love the tags especially the black cat and the mushroom cap in the tea cup made me think of a lid to keep your tea warm while you step away from your desk or table. In my area, we don't have a carnival so it was fun to see the parade. Yeah, the lead dude looks like Dumbledore. Looked like a nice day for a parade. I had to laugh at the description of rival beer. I didn't need to look it up. I'm not a beer drinker so that's my thought about all beer no matter where it's brewed :-D Enjoy your day!

Two fantastic tags Valerie, i love the steampunk style of the first one.
ReplyDeleteIt was good to read your post and see all those super photos. I don't drink beer either although I sometimes have a small inch level of lager in a tall glass topped up with lemonade as a refreshing thirst quencher.
The parades at the carnivals look like folk of all ages groups can get involved and enjoy the march.

Love the steampunk art. That French style black cat clock is great. I know it has a name, but tonight my tired brain is not going to think of it. Like the mushroom tag too with the teacup. The festival was interesting to read about. Hugs-Erika

And: We have huge carnival parades in Greece too. There is no competition because the greek cities, and everyone knows that Patras (a town in 200 km far aways from Athens) has the biggest and most stunning parade.
