Weekend Post

Hi Everybody!

Winter seems to have forgotten to call in here, but perhaps it's just late! Europe seems to be a snow free zone just now - are we experiencing a Wintrexit? And so many people still think there's no climate change....
Anyway, warm wet and windy was our theme this week. Buds are growing and the birds seem to think it's time for spring. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next!
I had some blood tests done yesterday, and although my fingers are better than they were, the inflammation is still not gone, so I need to take the cortisone for another 8 days. I'm not really happy about it, as the side effects are hard, but what has to be has to be! Let the battle begin!

I made this A2 mixed media piece some weeks back together with another 'double-head' piece which I showed in December. This one had slipped down to the bottom of one of my large piles and I found it while looking for a book, which I still haven't found....The heads were cut from painted and textured paper and then given some sewing. After sewing them to the  painted and textured background, I decided to add the feathers, but can't say If I like them or not. But what's done is done!  I added the sentiment this week, sorry for the wobbly writing. I am linking to Jo's theme at Art Journal Journey, something new:

Last Tuesday we had a sunny day, and I enjoyed walking through Hofgarten and visiting the birds:

This swan was evidently disappointed that I didn't have any lettuce in my bag:

Beautiful colours along the Rhine:

The forsythia is blooming on the Liebeskind Building:

And I always pay my respects to Henry Moore:

People having fun at the skating rink:

And I like to play with photos here:

Have a great day, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

  3. Hi Val, hope you had a nice day and enjoyed your walks even though it was wet. Love your feathery page, and the words are great and so you! We had a busy day here, the kids are sick and I have too much to do! Have a good weekend, hugs, Sarah

  4. I love this page, Valerie. And yes, my friend, the feathers are perfect! They remind me Indians!!! And, as I always tell you, you live in paradise, sweetie. Gorgeous photos of your walk. Hugs!!!

  5. Warm (sometimes) and wet and windy here too - though it looks as though you've had more sunshine and blue skies than we've had. The weather and the mood is very grey here.

I love your stitched heads - beautiful colours - and to me the feathers are no longer feathers... they are the thoughts escaping, heading out into the world. I do like the little ditty - the words are a pretty good reflection of how I'm feeling right now too! Gorgeous photos as always, and I do hope your fingers improve soon.

  6. You are really having a hard time with those fingers, Valerie, and it must be both frustrating and painful. I hope that all will be well soon and that the side effects from the cortisone are not too severe. In the meantime I am glad that you are still keeping an eye on the Canada Geese!

  7. So far we're having a warm winter too -- which is fine by me (with the exception of wondering what in the world is happening to the climate). But a big storm is expected and I don't know if the cold temps they talk about with it will stick or move on quickly. We'll see.

Been there, done that with the cortisone more times than I wish and I know what you mean about the side effects. But it is a miracle drug and always seems to do the trick in time. I hope everything is good with you soon. It does sound like it's improving, and that's a plus!

  8. Yes it's been very mild for this time of year, we had sunshine and blue skies for our walk today which was lovely 😁. I'm loving your heads, the stitching patterns look beautiful and the wording is so true, sometimes you can't help feeling this way at this time of year. The photos are fabulous, so nice walking with you again 😀. I do hope you fingers are all better soon! Hugs, Jo x

  17. I LOVE your latest journal page, Valerie. The heads are great, the feathers are great, and even the plot makes sense to me (grin). Beautiful stitching and great art. Thanks for joining us again at Art Journal Journey using Jo's theme.

I bet you know my favorite shot from today's photos. I absolutely adore the black swan. I swooned nearly as much as I would when I see rust or a rocking horse. I also liked seeing how green everything was. Here we have sleet and ice. Unseasonably warm weather is gone now. Seems like it is there to stay in your area.

  18. Wintrexit! :-)

  19. I do hope that your fingers improve with the next course of medication Valerie.
Wonderful photos from your walk, it is a silly winter so far here as well. Its the strong winds that we are having, its hard to walk and struggle against them.
I love your heads page and the stitching you added. The feathers made me think of an Indian head dress when I first looked. The words are super.
It is a fantastic page for Jo's theme at Art journal journey as well.

  21. WE're getting warmer and wetter weather here, too. I'm sorry about your fingers and that you have to take the meds longer than you'd thought, but I hope you continue to show improvement 'til your recovery is soon complete. I love your page, the threads and feathers and the perfect words. The waterside photos are nice. What a wonderful place to walk and enjoy the birds and the view. That building is a stunner!

we have been mild here too-until today-a little ice, snowing still looks pretty outdoors-it will all melt away in a few days thought-warm weather returning.

  26. Your photos are always wonderful, Valerie. I wonder how much post processing (if any) you use. It's the only way I can get halfway decent photos.

I'm sorry to hear you have to stay on the cortisone longer. I know about the awful side effects. You're a real trouper. Sending healing energy.

I can also relate to the meaningful rhyme in your "new" page for AJJ.

    1. Thanks for the encouragement Eileen. I use photo processing when I use my proper cameras, but not when I use my cell phone, as I have been doing a lot recently as it's easier to use when my fingers are bad.

  27. You really are having unusual weather since forsythia is blooming in January. I don't get how anyone can't understand the global climate change. Even here with snow, we seem to get way more rain and ice than ever. But onto art. I do love your heads. They have so much amazing texture. Good luck with the cortisone and your fingers. Hugs-Erika

  33. Your piece is great and I don't think the writing looks wobbly. It goes with the curves of the piece!

Love the outdoor photos. Those blues that you captured are stunning. This weekend it is about 30 degrees F warmer here than it usually is- which has been nice, but definitely the climate is changing! I know cold temps will be back in a week- but this is weather we don't usually have until April.

Hope you have a wonderful week and that the cortisone helps!

  38. I think your art is great Valerie, losing the plot... sometimes its nice to let loose and let it out. You weren't feeling great and, yes, cortisone is not that good to have to take but it does the job hopefully. I need it sometimes too for a nuisance thing and have a love/hate relationship with it. Hugs xx

  39. I do hope the cortisone works some relieving magic for you! I love the textures in your mixed media piece! The Wintery blues and yellows in your photos are so beautiful Valerie! Hugs,Chrisx
