T stands for a Flea-markeT cafe

Hi Everybody!

Hope your weekend was good. We had a wonderful day out yesterday. G drove us to a little town called Neviges where there is a huge Church where pilgrimages to Mary are made. The Church was built in the 60s/70s in brutalist architecture, made completely from cement, and even when this is not my fave style, it is extremely impressive, inside and out. Photos will be shown soon! We also visited the rest of the lovely town with lots of 'fachwerk' (half-timbered) houses,  steep little streets and some fun cafes. After that we went to a little lake nearby, which was most beautiful, and to a small 'Heimat' (home) museum, and it was good to see all the things from bygone days. I will be showing the photos I took over the next couple of weeks.

First I would like to remind you that we still have a week to join in the clock challenge at
I made another tag, which I am also linking to Simon Monday Challenge, autumn / Fall:

The image is from LaBlanche. The leaves are natural leaves, embossed with Frantage old gold. The BG is a piece of left-over paper from another project.
Time is flying - I have arranged the leaves like wings, too. As (almost) always, I added some sewing, just for the fun of it!

Tuesday is also time for Elizabeth's T stands for Tuesday link party, so here a warm welcome to all of the lovely ladies of the T gang. Our first coffee yesterday when we got to Neviges was in the Pilgrim's cafe. A friendly, old lady served us with delicious home-made cake and really good coffee. There are no prices, you just donate what you can:

Our second coffee break, was in a cafe set in a flea market. The tables and chairs are set among the artifacts of days  long gone. The weather was wonderful, warm and sunny without being too hot, and we enjoyed our stay there:

Every table is decorated with old crockery:

'oll ist toll' = old is great. This was where we sat:

I had my fave cappuccino:

G had a huge cup of coffee:

More pictures to follow!

Have a great day, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

  2. Hi Val, what a fantastic tag you made, love it! The beetle is a bit creepy, but somehow fascinating. You visited a great place yesterday, loved the idea of drinking coffee at a flea-market. Were the things for sale or just decoration? Glad you had a nice day out. It's raining here so I'm catching up on post and bills etc! Have a good week, hugs, Sarah

  4. I like the tag and how you arranged the leaves like wings. The bug makes me think of Gregor from Kafke's Metamorphosis. Delicious looking cake. How fun to eat among the bric-a-brac. So much to look at. Did I see a sign for waffles? I love the Charlie Chaplin statues. And that baby head. There are two large baby heads like that outside the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Enjoy your T Day

    1. Thanks! Had to smile about Gregor. You did indeed see a sign for waffles, it's a speciality of the region there. I managed to resist!

  5. This sounds like a really cool place to visit Valerie. I can't wait to see the photos of the church. You made me think of the big church in Iceland which wasn't pretty but still architecturally eye catching. And cool tag. Think I will go off and make a tag in a few minutes when I go up to work. :) happy Monday. Happy early T day too. Hugs-Erika

  7. What a great T post! First off, I loved the angel. One of my favorites in your vast collection. (I now say "one" of my faves because I say so many are!) Your day trip sounds wonderful and fascinating and I'll look forward to the photos. Loved what I saw here in your T pictures. The cafes look charming and how nice to have a "give what you can" policy. Just terrific!

  20. I got caught up in Grillin' and Chillin' today, and lost track of time. I certainly look forward to seeing that church and other photos you took. But first, I want to let you know how much I like that tag. That bug looks SO realistic. It's a fantastic tag.

Both places you stopped were great. I like the idea of paying what you could afford. It's a great way to do business. Of course, the second place you stopped was over the top with the crockery on the tables and the mannequins. It is a place I would go back to time and time again if I lived close. I think your cappuccino looked fabulous and I am always so impressed you get a small cookie (biscuit) with your drink. Thanks for sharing these two lovely eateries and sharing your drinks with us for T this Tuesday.

  21. I love your tags! I have to agree with everyone about how realistic your bug looks. Wow! I'm going to check out some of the challenges you are participating in this week. I've really missed Mixed Media Monthly since they are no longer doing the monthly challenges. :( Your day looks like it was wonderfully spent! Great photos. :) I'm looking forward to seeing the others. Thank you for the feedback on your camera and your comments as well. You are correct at saying that teaching is a great job, but often stressful and tiring. I sure do enjoy our students though. I'm thankful to be at an amazing school. Hope you have a blessed week!

  22. Wow, the cafe you found at the flea market is an amazing place! I love all the memorabilia especially the beautiful old crockery on the tables 😀. I had to enlarge your wonderful photos to have a good look, there is just so much to see ...lol 😉. Great tag too although I didn't look as closely as that beetle is huge and a bit scary ...lol! Thank for sharing your cake and coffees and wishing you a Happy T Day! J 😊 x

  23. What a fantastic tag with an impressive beetle. Yes, time flies and as far as I'm concerned does not need to be encouraged to use its wings.
Thank you for taking us to those quirky cafes. I love it. All those old random things. I could sit there for hours and look around.
I'm looking forward to seeing your photos of the Neviges cathedral. Like you, I don't particularly like the Brutalist style but this particular building caught my attention as apart from modern architecture, I also have a passion for geology and the cathedral reminds me of crystals, perhaps unpolished ones, but nevertheless, I see crystal shapes.
    Happy T-Day,
    Lisca

  33. Fabulous tag, Valerie. I love all the symbolism and glittery gold touches.

The nostalgia cafe in Neviges is charming. My "other mother" had a foot pedal Singer machine like that!

Thanks for your lovely comment on my T-post. I always preferred an electric stove when we lived in the US. But in Mexico, electricty is very expensive and electric ranges are even more so.

    Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen
