Hi Everybody!
On Tuesday we are beginning a new challenge at
Tag Tuesday, and our lovely Michele is hosting.
Her theme is 'back to school', and many pupils and teachers
world wide will be preparing for this right now.
As always, you have 2 weeks to link to our challenge, and
tags of all formats are welcome. And I chose a winner
out of the hat for the last challenge- you'll have to look at the
TT blog to find out who it is!
For 'back to school' I made a tag using large alpha
stickers from TH, which I (re)discovered when I recently
cleared my table. The little girl, who is not looking very happy,
is probably thinking about all she will need to do at
school. I gave her a bright, yellow crayon to cheer her up.
She was fussy cut from a Gecko Galz sheet and varnished.
The edges were sewn.
Tuesday is also time for Elizabeth's Tea stands for
Tuesday party, so welcome to all the nice ladies from the tea gang.
Today I am sharing a journal page made for Jo's 'Poetry in Motion' challenge
at Art Journal journey, For this page I tried a new (to me)
technique of making skins using Saran wrap and an iron, which gives
you a transparent image which can even be sewn, as you can see here.
I saw the ad for this beer in a magazine, and thought it would be good
for this theme, as I know Jo loves brewing and drinking beer.
(I'll stick to coffee and cola!) The background here was painted and
crackled, making it look nice and grungy. The text is from G.K. Chesterton (author of 'Father Brown')
I baked a banana bread at the weekend, yummy, help yourselves to a slice!
This postcard is up for grabs this week. I think we all need some peace in the world just now. Last week's card went to
Kathy in Ozarks. Please tell me if you would like to be entered into the
draw for this week's card!
Here are the last photos from our outing last Wednesday. We visited
the little village of Lank near the Rhine:
I just love this shop's name!
Love this fountain with the bronze figures of market
life in bygone days:
I thought this might be interesting for the T gang ladies from Missouri.
The text says:
In memory of the many emigrants who lived in the area known as
Meerbusch today. Between 1835 and 1865 more than 300 people
left their homes because of the difficult times and settled in
Loose Creek, Westphalia, Frankenstein (County Osage) and St Thomas.
They have kept their local German dialect up to this day.
Have a great day, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!
What a cute town with so many details. Your tag is lovely. The stitching on your journal page is fabulous!

Another lovely post. The tag is fantastic, very vintage looking. Great journal page even though I don't know what a skin is or how you made it. Tricks of the trade, and the results are great. Wonderful photos, too. Thanks for sharing. Hugs, Sarah
ReplyDeleteCute school tag and a lovely page with the new technique. The village of Lank is lovely.
ReplyDeleteWonderful interpretation of the theme and lovely photos. Greetings.
ReplyDeleteOoh lovely pieces Valerie, great use of the crayon, and the beer quote is fab (I'd rather have a nice cup of coffee though) What a lovely village too! Have a fun week, Sue xx

Oh my, you are so kind and thoughtful creating a page for my theme over at Art Journal Journey knowing my love of beer - you make my heart sing dear Valerie! I love that you used a new technique on your page too, I always love learning new things and the skin you created is amazing 😁. Looking at the skin images, I can just imagine those gentleman walking through the countryside and popping into one of those pubs for a beer - perfect! Wow, the crackle glaze background is lovely and you used my favourite blue too, and then there's the beer images and stitching - I love it 😁. I adore your tag, the bookshop name and bronze figures too! You've really made my day - thank you! Cheers and wishing you a very Happy T Day! J 😊 x
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo, glad you liked your special page!
DeleteOh what gorgeous art! You make the best tags. The banana bread looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteThat is a wonderful looking new technique Valerie, the page you created looks fantastic. The tag looks great as well, she does look a little sad. maybe because the holiday is over.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, I loved the figures by water feature in the square.
Yes please to a slice of your delicious cake, it looks yummy.
Happy T day wishes .
Yvonne xx
A brilliant post Valerie! I love that you tried to cheer up the little girl with a yellow crayon! Your journal page is certainly the right one for Jo, although like yourself I prefer coffee or cola! I love banana bread and I do believe I could count it as one of my '5 a day'! I loved seeing more of your visit and those stautes around the well are fabulous!! Happy T Day! Chrisx
ReplyDeleteOh yes, 5 slices of banana cake a day sound good to me:)!
DeleteThe bright yellow crayon should definitely cheer up that little girl. :)
ReplyDeleteThe beer theme is great and the new technique looks excellent. I can imagine after walking 10 miles in the heat a cold beer would be refreshing.
The banana bread looks yummy.
The statues by the well are awesome. Love them!
Thanks for sharing. I would love to be entered for the post card. It is beautiful and I love the message. :)

I have to admit, your T entry was totally out of the box today. It was so wonderful, and I really, really want to make some skins, but I don't know if I have the right materials needed. You did a fabulous job, and the sewing was perfect, as was the transparency.
ReplyDeleteYou KNOW that Tag Tuesday theme is one I'm really in love with. Our school started last Thursday, so we are apparently ahead of the curve. Your tag is beautiful and I like all the pieces you included in it.
Looks like there were quite a few eateries in Lank. Lots of places to sit and enjoy yourself under an umbrella. Of course, I loved the fountain, and the bikes in front of the well. So good of you to think of the Missouri connection, too. This has been a fabulous post.
Thanks for sharing your trip to Lank, your lovely tag, your baking skills, and your beer inspired drink with AJJ and us for T this Tuesday. BTW, I'll stick with coffee, too, please.
so much to take in here...fab tag and a great new theme-perfect timing too:) great technique on your AJJ journal page! Banana bread is a hit in my house but yours has that special addition of chocolate drizzle.
ReplyDeleteAnother really lovely town visit beautiful buildings and sculptures and lots of wonderful eateries to stop at along the way. Happy T day!
MMMMMM, banana bread! I can smell it here! LOVE the statue photos
ReplyDeleteHappy T-day
I bet there are lots of kids like that girl on your tag not too happy about summer ending. (I think a few teachers too.) :) That yellow crayon should cheer her up however. If it doesn't I don't know what would. And I love the beer piece. How did you make those skins? They are really cool. I am guess you must iron the paper side so you don't melt the Seran Wrap all over your iron. And yes please, I'll take some banana bread. Maybe there's a table near that fountain in Lank. I thought those statues were really wonderful and I would be happy to look at them while I munch of some of your yummy bread. :) Happy T Day. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteI have a post coming up tomorrow with another 'skin', and then I will show how I made it!
Deletei love your tag and the journal page is mesmerizing! fun statues and sights on your walk! xo

Great art, great travel photo's. Lank looks really interesting. I particularly enjoyed the sculptures. So life like.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post today Valerie! Love your tag and art journal page and the fountain!! OMGoodness the fountain. How incredible! Love to see the children playing on it.. We had a pretty incredible fountain in Kaiserslautern, Germany when we were there... lots of animals on it.. my daughter loved to play on it.. Happy happy T day! Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteThe saran techniques sounds intriguing. I'll have to go look that up. Poor little girl got stuck with having to write What I Did On My Summer Vacation. Looking at your beer page makes me want to grab the stein, pound it on the table while singing. Du, du liegst mir in Herzen. I haven't had my breakfast yet so I would love to help myself to a slab of your banana bread. I so enjoy your walks. The village is so quaint. Love the found. You can hear the fruit vendor flirting with the washer woman, and the older woman just enjoying her rest by the fountain. Have a happy T Day
ReplyDeleteOh, and your postcard is gorgeous. I wouldn't mind a chance at that (-;
DeleteI shall be singing that song and waving my coffee mug all afternoon now! I've put you on the list!
DeleteWhat a sweet little girl. The yellow crayon is a perfect touch. The grunge look is fun on the second:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely stroll through the village. Aren't those statues amazing?
YOU, have a great one.
Hugs,
Banana bread! Yes, please :)
ReplyDeleteThe town is wonderful. I love the statues and the outdoor tables. I can picture myself eating there and taking in the views. What a treat. Happy T Tuesday
Valerie, I was so intrigued with your Saran wrap transfer that I went searching online. I found a great book on image transfers (I hope) and bought the Kindle edition so I can read it right away! Love your page and the Chesterton quote!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the banana bread - with chocolate on top. I've never seen or eaten it that way. Honestly ... the things I'm learning at Elizabeth's T-parties. I feel like my world is expanding and my head might burst - lol.
I would love to receive a postcard by you.
What a lovely little village. The statues are nostalgic and charming.
Happy T-Day! Hugs, Eileen
Fabulous photos as well as art! Especially love the tag....back-to-school always reminds me of the smell of a new box of crayons!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo's of Lank, it looks an interesting place.

ReplyDeleteI received my postcard in the mail today-wow that came really fast-I love it!!! I will share it in my next post.
I enjoyed all of the photos-the sculptures and fountains-and Yes there are several very German towns here in Missouri-they are in a different part of the state then where we live-but has always been somewhere we wanted to visit-especially those handmade sausage shops.
Happy T Day Kathy
