New challenge at Art Journal Journey - fish

Hi Everybody!

Today we are starting a new challenge at AJJ. Thanks to Michele who was a wonderful host in May with her lovely theme of birds. This time the lovely  Mia  of Craftartista is hosting and has chosen  🐟🐠fish🐡🐟 as her theme. All are welcome to join in, but please read the rules on our blog.

I got a bit carried away and made a huge scene (20" x 14") with fish under water and birds in the sky, strange mermaids, floating eyes and everything merging together. I used some tissue paper from Jane Davenport to liven it up, and really had fun just going a bit crazy with adding strange things:

Today and Thursday Rain has her challenge, this time the theme is  colourful June /pink. I found some older journal pages with some pink on them, and I will also be linking to Elizabeth's 2nd on the 2nd tomorrow:

And 2 funnies/thinkies:

Have a great day, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

  1. That is one HUGE first entry for Mia's theme at AJJ. You put a lot of effort into it and t shows. So many things to see. I see something new each time I scroll back to look at the overall spread. It is amazing. Thanks for this first entry, Valerie.

Wonderful examples of pink. I certainly remember several of these, and they will make great second looks on the 2nd. A couple will even be first looks for me. Thanks for sharing them.

  4. Good morning, Valerie:
I have no idea how you manage to keep track of all these challenges and themes and create appropriate items for them. This time you really went to town. Maybe next time a whole sheet of plywood will be your medium! It will be interesting to see what everyone comes up with for this fishy theme. I might make creamed salmon for lunch and that will be the closest I get. Yesterday the temperature climbed to an abominable 32 degrees here and we made a Southwest Salad for dinner, just the thing on a hot day. The patio is shaded by the trees in our yard so we ate en plein air and it was very pleasant. I had no wine in the house, but a gin and tonic over ice, with a squeeze of lemon was very agreeable. No fish, but I could pretend that Miriam was a mermaid. On Saturday I will be giving a presentation at the Huron Fringe Festival. They pay me a handsome stipend, expenses and provide accommodation for the night. Not a bad gig! I expect that now COVID has become manageable there will be more live presentations from September onwards, and I am looking forward to getting back in the groove. Enjoy the rest of the week. Hugs and kisses. David

    1. Hi David, sometimes I wonder myself how I keep up, and bringing three challenges together on one blog is rather exhausting, but needs must. Today I am having a azy day after a sleepless night. Its windy and stormy outside, so a good time to stay home and paint. Creamed salmon sounds very agreeable, as did your lovely salad with a G&tT on ice! No alcohol for me these days! Miriam as mermaid, hmmmm, the mind boggles! our hot weather wil probably be coming to us in a few days, not my fave weather, my apartment gets so awfully hot. Good that you will making some presentations and getting money for it, well done! I had to read your text twice, I thought it said Hairon Fringe....Have a great day, be happy, enjoy your food. Big hugs!

  6. I do like your giant fish and other animal life scene. It is lots of fun. And I love that you still added dots too. Plus it is nice to see and see again those pretty pink pages for Rain's Thursdays and also Second on the Second. Color is a nice choice for Rain's Art Date and makes it easy I think. Happy June to you. I hope you have a very good month head, and of course, have lots of fish in your life, or at least your art life. Hugs-Erika

  12. Oh my, Valerie! Your "Dance to the Song of the Sea" is gorgeous! Surely you will frame it and hang it somewhere! And I enjoyed your pink pieces. You create such compelling faces. Marcus Aurelius is so right! Your fish reminded me that I have a framed piece of art of my own that has some pink. Now I have to go photograph it, and add it to my pink post for Friday. I'm so excited. Take care!

  17. Hi Valerie! How are you feeling? I have been thinking about you!!! And WOW! I absolutely love the beautiful scene that you made for Mia's "Fish" theme this month at AJJ. I couldn't take my eyes off of it and loved seeing all of the wonderful under the sea creatures including fish. I can see them all "dancing to the song of the sea!!" And I really like your pretty examples of pink! The funnies at the end really made me giggle, too! Thanks for making my day, Valerie! Hugs, Sharon

  20. Your Dance to the Song of the Sea is beautiful. It deserves to be hung up some where. Your Pink for Girls is also lovely. (Why does it remind me of the Handmaiden's Tale? It shouldn't).
I smiled at your funnies. The grumpy car is a bit like me sometimes in the morning (although I'm not a coffee drinker, I don't 'do' mornings.)
    Happy Second on the 2nd,
    Hugs,

  28. Wow, that is a big painting. So much to see and explore with you here. I do like the way the mermaid on the left has her hair - I can just imagine it floating like that in the water. And I love the tail on the other one. You have captured "flimsy" perfectly, just like a real fishy tail,
The whole page has so much interest, it is good to read that you had as much fun making the page as we are having viewing it.

  31. What you added to your creation wasn't strange ... more like exotic and all in all an awesome, uplifting piece. Then we move on to your pinks. ... I love your faces and the lady with the hat is so "20's" and the quotation so honest. Your flowers are beautiful ... so much talent, Valerie. Love the Asian Wisdom ... so true and so profound. And, finally, I don't know anyone who couldn't relate to the cat ... and the coffee. Sadly because of my BP issues, I can't rely on the caffeine buzz anymore, so though it is decaf for me, I still seem to be able to function ... surprising, huh? Love it all, as always :)
