Mixed media, a snail and counting sheep

Hi Everybody!

It's weekend - enjoy! We are expecting some bad weather this weekend, so that might mean less opportunity to go walking and more time spent at home to catch up on some tasks here. I have been taking my long walks every day and making the most of the dry weather.

On the 5th of each month we start a new challenge at More Mixed Media.
As always, our challenges are anything mixed media goes, this time with optional pink. I made this A3 mixed media page back in March, and am glad I worked in advance as I still having problems using my fingers:

I started off with a painted background with some added scraps - a piece of painted, heated and bubbled tyvek, a piece of hand coloured silk, some pink sequined cloth and a piece of silver gauzy stuff, which were sewn on:

Then I collaged lots of tissues, mostly from Jane Davenport, and some painted blobs, before finally doing some more sewing :

The challenge runs for a whole month, and there are prizes to win, so it would be great to see you joining in.

And some photos from an evening walk by the Rhine:

This snail oozed across my path:

The sheep have been grazing here the past few days. Sorry for the poor quality of the pics, they were taken with my cellphone which is not so good these days after taking a dip in the toilet:

Have a great weekend, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

Sorry your fingers are still playing you up. Love the photos, sheep are always so pretty to watch. Sorry about your phone though, pity it went for a bath! Have a great day, take care, hugs, Sarah

  5. The photos of sheeps - that I love - always make me smile!!! I love your shadow photo too! And a STUNNING media media page, Valerie! How! Such a great inspiration for an amateur in mixed media, like me. What a great idea to stamp on tissue paper and then add it on the page. I will definitely try this technique. I send you many many kisses and a big hug, my dear friend. Please take care of yourself and I hope that soon your fingers will get better.

  7. Your mixed media piece makes me think of a secret garden where flowers are blooming. Love the pictures of the lambs. The brown one with the H marking made me smile. Stay safe.

  8. I can't believe the fingers are still an issue Valerie. Do they at least know the cause? And your journal page today is fantastic with that pop of pink. That phrase (pop of pink) sounds as good as it looks, doesn't it? Anything topic is the song of the sea is a good one in my book. And I love seeing some sunny photos. We have been in a very extended cloud and wet phrase. Today they say just clouds. Hopefully I can get out and do some yard work for a bit and it won't rain! Happy weekend. Hope you get your chores done and maybe even squeeze ins some walks. Hugs-Erika

    1. The doc knows more or less what is causing the problems, but there's not much to do about it. He thinks it will get better sooner or later....

  17. Just a beautiful mixed media journal entry. I LOVE that you used sewing, too. It adds that extra pop to a page that is already beautiful with pop (and pink).

Sheep look healthy, and I absolutely love your photos today. Babies are always fun to see and watch grow.

  19. Lovely to see your art, it's so colourful … I like it.
Sorry to read that you are still having problems using your fingers, I do hope the problem can be sorted for you.

Beautiful collection of photographs from your walk, loved the shadow shot and the sheep, there seems a lot of them.

Hope your weekend has been a good one. The weather here in the UK has turned a little bit cooler, I just had a short walk earlier and was pleased I'd put a slightly thicker coat on!

    All the best Jan

  21. A wonderful page Valerie, love the added textures with the silk and Tyvek.
Lovely photos - I always love to see your 'long legged' ones. You're lucky you can still take photos after the 'dip' your phone had - I did that and my phone just had 'flashing fits' and I needed a new phone!
Hope you're enjoying the weekend even if the weather isn't too good.
    Avril xx
