Vintage and grungy

Hi Everybody!

A couple of weeks back I made this mixed media piece
as a cover for an A5 journal that is almost finished
and looking rather tatty and worn. I started with a tag
made with a stamp from CI, stamped with vintage
photo DI, mounted onto 2 pieces of scrap card and sewn together. The background was stamped with 2 stamps from LaBlanche using the
same colour. It got mounted onto some gessoed corrugated cardboard,
which was smothered with Utee into which I stamped using
diamond and script stamps, also from LaBlanche. I glued
the layers together and sewed them onto some canvas with
fringed edges. I got given a whole roll of ready gessoed
canvas because it was a bit stained and grungy -
perfect!
I am linking to Gill's 'elegance and grunge' challenge at
Art Journal Journey; Tag Tuesday - anything goes, and
Allsorts challenge blog, vintage style.

And I made another digital tag for Go Tag Thursday, countries -
I chose Paris, and made a similar tag to the one from
yesterday.

Yesterday I saw a woodpecker in the tree in the field behind
our garden. I zoomed him in - it's about 50 yards away -
clicked, and he was gone:

Then I saw him come round again from the back of the branch:

And then I got him:

I have some lupins on my rather messy balcony, and the bees
only like the white one:

I tried to find shady ways for my walk today, as it was very hot.
One of the neighbours has this lovely rose hedge:

The horses were also in a shady place:

The farmers have been busy mowing the fields and
making hay while the sun shines....

Here you can buy strawberries, fresh from the fields:

There are loads of wild roses along the Rhine path:

Have a great day, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!

  1. Absolutely love your vintage creation and the wording is so true. Adore your digi tags too, such a fun retro scene you have created on it. And then your little woodpecker is just so beautiful and I adore your photography skills as always.

  11. There is nothing better than strawberries picked fresh from the field. It will be another month before we get any, if they don't get drowned from all the rain. :) Loving your gorgeous tags today. i like the slight differences from yesterday's Paris tag. They make a great pair. Can you send a bit of warm weather our way? Its just abnormally cold here. happy rest of your weekend. Hugs-Erika

  12. I have just been catching up on all the things you have been doing while I was away and you have certainly made some wonders and taken some amazing photographs. Love the ones from the top of the gasometer.

Today your makes and photographs are stopped me in my tracks-all incredible.

Nice to know you have had good weather and I hope you will have lots more. Nice here too but I am off to water the plants as they are so dry after our holiday

    Have a great day

  18. That tag you created for this latest journal cover is beautiful. The entire front cover with its layers is wonderful, but the tag is the real spotlight. And, as you know from sending me two, I adore LaBlanche stamps. The ones you used were fabulous. As always, I adore the stitching and that gifted .

The second tag looks like it was NOT digital. I am always in awe of your digital work.

Lovely photos of the roses and horses. But the woodpecker was awesome. Persistence is everything!

  22. I love your dusty pink "grungy" piece, it will be a great cover for a journal. I'm not actually sure it is grungy, it's rather elegant.
Great "catch" on the woodpecker. I'm always surprised at how large and colourful they are, but they are difficult to spot on a walk, they can be heard tapping loudly but where are they?
Thanks for these glorious photos of wild roses.
It's been hot here (too hot) but now it is chilly and it's lovely.
