I made a hybrid piece combining a water coloured background, my photos of the moon and the young raven, and some digital add ons - tree and stars- from Mischief Circus and Serif:

DeleteI'm with you about how the classical painters could display light and dark. That first painting with the candle is just amazing. And I love your raven piece. We were just talking in one of my classes today why black can sometimes look blue, and then I saw your bird and the blue on it. I love how you made it a night sky too. Happy hump day. :) Hugs-Erika

Terrific page Valerie and an amazing tree branch to use for it.
ReplyDeleteThe paintings are wonderful. I always marvel at the way they paint lace and I get as close as possible to see how it is done--would love to touch it as the textures stand right out from the canvas.

Nicely themed, Valerie. The use of light in painting beautifully demonstrated. Often the best part of my drawings is the paper I don't draw on!

I must tell you, last friday I had the chance to go into the city with my cousin for the day. We visited a few museums, one about the Erie Canal, which shaped the city of Syracuse,New York, as well as other cities here in New York.
The other museum, the Everson- and art museum. I was ever so disappointed with the lack of art and what they displayed. I understand museums, rotate the curations, but, there was really nothing classical or from masters, the only pieces worth note, were a table and desk, of Gustav Stickley and a print of Warhols. Very disappointing "(
So, until I can get back to NYC,to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, I look forward to your fabulous trips to the museums and your shares- thank you so much!

ReplyDeleteAll the paintings are beautiful - I would dearly love to see them in person. The last one is quite sinister - the two sleeping princes about to be murdered. Did you take these pictures. If so, I am surprised that the museum let you. No flash I suppose.

I love the bird page, Valerie - another great light and dark piece, and wonderful samples of artwork from across the centuries playing with light and shadow. I'm sorry to have missed so much this year, but it's been a little crazy! Wishing you and yours a merry Christmas.
