Hi Everybody!
Lots of the songs we sing and like are happy ones, and that's good so. But sometimes it's important to look at 'the other side', the not so happy side of life, where many unfortunate people are - living on the streets. Every town these days, no matter where in the world, seems to be populated by people who live, beg and sleep on the streets, while others live in a wild excess of luxury. Ralph McTell's song 'Streets of London' from 1969 shows this sadder side of life, which is reality for so many people, old and young.
I made an A3 mixed media collage for
Art Journal Journey, for the record.

You've done an excellent job of expressing the darker side of life. Unfortunately, you are correct -- where there is light, there is also darkness. Delightful photos of the Rhine -- love the boat sitting deep in the water. Always something interesting to see. hugs, Donna

Although I have never heard that song before, I remember the first time I (a very sheltered adult) was exposed to the homeless. My heart went out to them, and I wanted to take them all home. However, I also realized some were schizophrenic and some are not "nice." Most, though, seemed to be a product of circumstances beyond their control. This was a very moving piece of art today, and a chilling reminder that this could be ANY of us!
ReplyDeleteSaw the boat named Leyla, and I started singing Eric Clapton's "Layla, you've got me on my knees." That's the up and down kind of day I've had, and I'm now finding humor in this photo of the boat that has nothing to do with the song (grin).
