Hi Everybody!
The journal page I am showing today for Art Journal Journey, architecture, is the second one using pictures of Acre (Akko). You can find the first part here if you missed it. The photo I used for this A3 mixed media page shows a door to a kiosk, which has been built into one of the ancient arches of the crusader castle. The 'King Albert' sign above it is made by hand, and the rusty door was painted with turquoise. Lots of posters and notices had been plastered over the doors, and the electric wires are hanging at the front. Not perhaps the usual standards of safety most of us are used to. I was fascinated by the door, and took the photo of it. I painted round it with blue and yellow, representing the bright sun and the blue water of the sea and sky. I used structure paste to put more masonry round the door. The quote is from Henri Matisse.
And here are some more photos of Akko. Sorry for the poor quality, they were mostly taken with my old cell-phone

Have a great day you all, take care,
and thanks for accompanying me on my journey today.
I think your photos are pretty interesting. Having never been to the Middle East think they look rather exotic. And your piece is very interesting too. I think it is a fascinating door. I love the warm colors and the POP of blue. Such gorgeous blue too. Hope the day is going well.
ReplyDeleteLovely page and photos of Akko. It is certainly beautiful and architectural.
ReplyDeleteSuch an interesting/unique door .. and to think it's in existence. Your pages are always so interesting, Valerie ... this one included. Adore the photos of Akko. Never made it to Israel when I was traveling .. the 67 war broke out and a dear friend of mind was blown up by a land mine .. I passed, however will always regret I never set eyes on the Holy Land. Your photos are wonderful ... the ancient city most interesting and you have captured some of its essence. Take care of yourself, hugs, Donna
ReplyDeleteLove your page...that door is really amazing! Great use of the photo and a gorgeous interpretation of the challenge--wonderful quote too! In the states we don't have really old buildings like these...so I enjoy the photos too!
ReplyDeleteNever, ever apologize for your photos, old phone camera or not. The photos of the camera I had before were so horrible, you couldn't tell what ANYTHING was. I adored both the photo and the page you created for AJJ of King Albert and the arch. You did a super fantastic job on both. Everything looks so sunny and bathed in warmth and bright summer colors. Guess that's why I like it. It's still summer here. Even our weather man says it can't be October because the temps tell him it's August!
ReplyDeletewow, eine tolle seite und wunderschöne bilder,da werden geschichten erzählt, wunderbar.
ReplyDeleteschönen tag heute.

Wonderful and interesting page Valerie. Your trip photos are awesome and I like the coloring in several making them look sort of vintage and faraway. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. xo

My grandson wanted to take it back home!
DeleteThat is a seriously good painting, original and beautifully made.
ReplyDeleteI love these photos, what a pity you don't still have this camera, the photos are almost like paintings, they have a fascinating texture which is sometimes sharp, sometimes not so much. Maybe like the difference between a gramophone record sound and a CD?
Oh what a special place that was.
ReplyDeleteI really like your photos Valerie!
Wonderful piece you created from that special arch too!!!

Ja die nicht so scharfen Fotos unterstreichen die Magie des Ortes. Ganz wunderschön dazu auch deine Collage mit dem Bogen und Schriftzug, diese Kombination von warmen Farben und einem Hauch Blau sieht super aus.
