Today started off very cold and frosty, but at least we had some sun. The next few days will be cold and icy - it's winter!
Today sees the start of a new challenge at Try it on Tuesday, 'Winter Whites'. Our challenges run for 2 weeks. so hope lots of you will find some time to enter your lovely creations. I made a collage, as that is our theme at Art Journal Journey. I used an image from Gecko Galz 'From Russia with love' collage sheet. I lightened the colours digitally, as I did not want too much colour in my winter whites. The image was placed in my giant journal after painting the page with gesso and sprinkling it with white and silver glitter. I then added 2 sorts of texture paste with a spatula to make the snow and ice and painted over it with white, and gave the sky some blue shadows with pastel chalks. The falling snow was added with puff paint, and the trees, sledge and reindeer were painted and liberally glittered before I fixed them onto the picture along with a few stars. I added lots of Stickles to the image.
We also have a new theme at Tag Tuesday and I will show my tag here tomorrow, as I want to show the pictures from Kevelaer, which we visited on Saturday. It has been a place of pilgrimage to honour Mary for almost 400 years. There are many shrines and chapels there, all beautiful, but for me the best thing was to see so many people, young and old, standing or kneeling reverently, praying, and lighting candles on a dark and cold night. The atmosphere was very touching, and felt really special. We lit candles there and said prayers for some sick friends, and it was a great experience, even though it is not my religion.
There was a Christmas Market in a hall, and in the centre was a nativity scene with living animals. It was wonderful to see the donkey and sheep walking around and munching on their straw.
This is a statue of a pilgrim in historical dress.
All in all, a wonderful day out!
Here's wishing you all a great day, take care,
and thanks a lot for coming by!
